Spring Carp fishing at Katarapko Creek

Join me for a solo overnight camping and fishing trip on Katarapko Creek in South Australia's Riverland. One of my favourite spots, it usually provides plenty of carp and quite a few good sized ones at times.
With the weather slowly warming up coming into spring, I was keen to get back into it after my last visit some 9 months earlier. Would it produce again?

I reckon there are thousands of smaller fish in that stretch and as we know you need to get 25 of the smaller ones to get a “lump”... we are on the cusp of the carp mating at this time of year and from a distant memory 😳 I wasn’t interested in eating when I had mating on my mind... so just off to get a sandwich ha ha! 👍

Yes there certainly are lots of small ones, but the average size was down this trip. A couple of years back I got nearly all 2-3 kg fish, so it varies. You probably saw what I said about spawning but I was talking about the fish ..... 😳😳😳

No worries! I was at campsite 33 but I also like 26, 31 and 34. Good luck.

I think big Barry was about 70 cm or 80 cm he was or she was very big I had trouble trying to hold it. I wished I could have weighed it but I didn't have anything to wear it but it was a lot bigger than the big one that you caught. Mind couldn't fit in the net. I love it because the fish bite really good there no matter what time.

Wynvale dam produced some slabs on Sunday, 3 others, and myself did well.

I get them from Viewpoint cafe at Waikerie on the way to the Riverland - much cheaper than tackle stores in town.

There must be 1000’s in that stretch Frank all roughly the same size, 25 little’is to a good one, I suspect you are right, they ARE on the verge of mating and from memory 😳 I didn’t want my dinner if I had mating on MY mind ha ha...
