While trolling Buoy 10 we got over on the Washington side. Trolling along and crab trap buoys black hardly able to see. Managed to miss the rope with our trolling gear. A friend guiding got tangled in the same buoys not sure what they are. He thought maybe commercial crab traps. We went to Newport and the bay just covered with crab ring or trap buoys. We were heading up the bay and found a hole in the mess of buoys. Next thing I hit one and then another rope. Luckily I had outboard trimmed up a ways going fairly fast. Whoever owned those traps had 100' of floating rope in 25' of water. I talked to a guy with the Oregon Marine Board and asked why doesn't Oregon require sinking rope on crab gear like Washington. He said that has been brought up a number of times but never passed. Then tells me him and his son going out of Newport to fish the ocean got hung on a crab trap rope tangled in their main outboard. Started kicker to control boat and got the kicker tangled in rope too. While trying to get the rope untangled a boat comes out of the fog right at them full speed. Missed them but way too close. He said he agreed with me Oregon needs to eliminate floating rope and only sinking for crabbing. Too this day I doubt it has changed. Also while at Newport crabbing these two guys are trying to get out of their own crabbing rope. We offered to help because they were slowing drifting into shallow water. We held them out of the shallow water. I asked why don't you raise your outboard. Guy says trim doesn't work. I asked don't you have an anchor. No we don't. I told them you should have something because if broke down or whatever you will just drift where ever or go out with the tide. The water was supper cold and the guy trying to reach down to untangle was in pain from the cold. Finally one guy says lets try starting the motor figure out to untangle put in reverse and that worked.

Most garbage I see on the rocks of the Columbia shores, is either the same green ropes, or styrofoam from net anchor points. Sad.

Theres something called a 2 pole endorsement. Yes they should of called it the 2 rod endorsement but from wdfw it's called the 2 pole endorsement and allows one angler to fish 2 rods.
