My husband and I raise quail for eggs and what you have is called a Coturnix quail. They do generally live with several others, so you could get him some female friends if you want. Usually it’s 1 mile per three females because they will meet with them. The females well, of course give you eggs, but they do not generally sit on their own eggs and hatch them out like chickens do. Coturnix quail usually live 1-3 years. They eat game bird feed & our love millet, mealworms, cucumbers, lettuce,squash & watermelon. They do not free range like chickens because they won’t come back. And they generally don’t survive a long time in the wild.

Oh my gosh Christine Thank you!!! This was so helpful! I actually just for him some mealworms and he seemed to enjoy them. I have no idea how old he is and that makes me a little nervous cause I hope he’s not older. I’ll definitely get some fresh foods you mentioned for him. Now where in the world would I get another quail? I haven’t seen any at the pet store 🤔

Not weird! I got it at Ross about 2 to 3 years ago. I don’t know if they have it in store now because they’re constantly changing their inventory.

But I’m sure he would be happy living with you as a pet by himself 😊 males will sometimes fight with each other. Quail can be very territorial
