What a fantastic opener to some open water fishing Zach. Great multi-species day as well. Just wondering why you left the hook in the pike? Looks like you could have grabbed that one with your fingers, oe was there more in it's mouth?
@ZachTheFisherman
@ZachTheFisherman Жыл бұрын
It was barbed and wouldn’t come out. So instead of prying just let it go.

I’m looking to go tomorrow I just don’t know where the parking is. Also does a curly hot pink jig work here?

They should do the trick! And there is 2 parks on either side if you park on north shore you have to walk across bridge

Hey Zach, looking for a good spot around Edmonton, not in the city preferably but close by. Any recommendations for places with minimal snags?
@ZachTheFisherman
@ZachTheFisherman Жыл бұрын
That’s unfortunately not going to happen the river is snag central and it’s always changing. That being said the head stand jigs help… and try going with a 3/8 oz jig and larger. The traditional jigs and smaller get stuck just because the current can take them and you’ll have less control with how you’re using your jig head leading to less strikes!

Why did you release that fish with the hook still in its lower jaw ???
@ZachTheFisherman
@ZachTheFisherman Жыл бұрын
Because instead the of ripping it’s face apart I figured it would be more ethical to leave it in. I had forgot my pliers with my ice gear and with barbs it would have caused more damage to the fish.

50cent hook… vs fiddling around keeping the fish out of the water. Idk what I thought was best in the moment!
@TheErms12345

I would have taken the hook up my buds. I never used barbed hooks anymore it causes to much damage to the fish if you don't keep them

Why didn't you take the hook out of that pike ?!
@ZachTheFisherman

It wrapped itself in the rig that we were using. I must’ve just missed it, I didn’t notice until after I edited the video. I made a mistake.
