I'm a big proponent for basic physical fitness. A basic stretching routine throughout the year is so beneficial for weekend fishermen, especially. Minor muscle strains (or worse back issues) and such can be avoided for the most part. We're not used to fishing al day and will be using muscles not used in the off-season. Nothing kills any day of fishing more than a stiff back.

My biggest piece of advice in addition to what Tim said - Don't be afraid to change to something you are not confident in. Build your confidence with new baits. I've converted many stubborn fisherman that I bring on my boat to new techniques and lures after out fishing them 10:1 because I am doing something they are not comfortable with. Watch videos, ask your friends how they do it. Once I showed them how it works and consistently encourage them to try other things they started catching many more fish and it was rewarding for them to add new tools to their arsenal of fishing fun!

Tim: Great video, just two things to add. Number 6: remember the loved ones who got you into fishing. Dad and/or Mom, favorite uncles or aunts, friends, cousins, girlfriends, boyfriends…..remember the good times. Number 7: take a treat to enjoy on the lake. I taught my grandkids fishing is always better if you have a few gum drops warmed by the sun. Thanks for the great advice. Personally guilty of all 5 of your points, but will improve ( or have a gum drop trying.) Stay safe, Happy Easter, God Bless.

I’ve been frustrated by fishing before, but never to the point of wanting to throw my gear away. It cost me alot of time and money. Even on bad days, fishing is peaceful and helps me unwind and recharge. On those bad days, it’s good to know there is a Tactical Bassin video that deals with whatever I faced that day at the lake.

You hit the nail on the head with this one. I'm out there to have fun, learn, and take in the beauty. After my father tragically passed unexpectedly back in November, I really just stopped fishing. I was under so much stress that I totally forgot why I started fishing in the first place... To build my physical, mental, and spiritual fitness because of some major health changes including a pacemaker (at 29). My father was 55 years old, perfectly healthy for his age and went to bed one night like any other, only to never wake up again due to a heart attack.... Thank you Tim for reinstating my desire to get back out there and to remember why I started in the first place.

I fish for those reasons and a little extra food. Generally don't fish unless I plan to eat them. I started fishing for golden and river red horse this last year. Enjoy the scenery and wading the streams in my area. Quite enjoyable, fun to catch, and rarely see another person in the area. At 12-18", decent fish for eating. Front half of fillet is a very mild white fish, back half is very bony. Back half is good if ground for fish cakes, or at 12" or less you can eat with caution. Some suggest pressure canning them, kinda like big sardines, though not tried it yet.
@FreeRiderNeal Жыл бұрын
@@Unsensitive I also keep and eat everything I catch that's within Texas Parks and Wildlife guidelines and that's also not oversized. Largemouth Bass and Carp are the only 2 fish I release regularly unless the fish was severely injured from the hook. Sometimes the artery in the gills gets punctured and the fish just bleeds out. But the way I see it, God put these creatures on this small pebble floating around the universe, called Earth, and those creatures are there for us to nourish our bodies. This may sound odd, but when I catch a keeper, I thank the Lord for allowing me to harvest his creation, and for the animal to suffer as little as possible during the process. I brain spike for the least painful death, followed by bleeding the fish.

thanks Tim really like ya'lls channel haven't been much for bass fishing more the salmon, lake trout trolling style, or big gar, catfish, redfish in the south. after watching ya'll catch teens looks like fun may give it a go. you know fishing is tough enough, then as we do you add in trying to video the whole trip/catch and that adds to the pressure of trying to make it happen. sometimes when it's not happening i'll just leave the cameras at the house and just go out and play. it really helps you sharing that even though most of your videos ya'll are just killing it you also have those bad days/weeks. don't think it will ever get to the point of tossing out all my fishing gear, think we all love the sport, and we always have those days we remember that make us take 4 hours to set up rods, cameras, etc. and head out to make it happen again because there are a ton of folks out there that just can't

One thing I realize yesterday while cranking, is that sometimes burning, pausing, twitching, and giving the bait crazy erratic action, just doesn’t work. I was having many more strikes just steady retrieving or waiting until I actually bumped off wood or got caught in grass. It seems like burning and pausing does work more often, when fish aren’t ridiculously active and chasing. But just a steady retrieve through cover was working better for me, as the fish were chasing bait like crazy yesterday. I had about a 50 fish day within a time period of about 3-4 hours on a small swim bait and micro squarebill on my bfs just steady retrieving and letting the cover do the work. Nice vid, tim.

Thanks for the video, I watch them often and always enjoy them. For context on my biggest mistake pattern, I fish a local reservoir called Laurel lake in southeast Kentucky. This water is always super clear, something like 20 feet visibility. Good small mouth population and large mouth and walleye ECT. Anyways my bad habit is to fish close to the shore most of the time. That's how I fished growing up and it's difficult to remember to turn around and fish open water stuff. The lake is super deep for the area of Kentucky. This reservoir empties into lake Cumberland. I occasionally catch bass in 40 to 50 feet of water, the shallow stuff is about 20 feet deep often 6 feet from the bank. Beautiful lake but very humbling to fish in. Gonna try to force myself to chase smallies in the deep, 150 foot realm and get off the banks post spawn. Thanks again for what you guys do.

I agree with not getting over heated if the fish are biting🤯 Use to shoot competitive archery and sometimes I would get in the Funk. My buddy would tell me that’s why they call it archery, just relax and shoot threw it. Often that comes to mind when I can’t buy a bite and can’t get the Mo Jo going when I’m fishing. To your last point about having fun... I always remember what my dad taught me who was a hard working dairy farmer and loved to fish, but had few opportunities to do so given the huge amount of chores that daily had to be done on the farm: "Son, there are two types of days fishing... good days and great days. A good day is when you get to go fishing... a great day is when you catch fish."

Also, if it is a slow day, I sometimes try out new baits and/or techniques just to get a feel for them.

Tim, you're right. My boat is for sale right now because of some things I've been going through that I just have no desire anymore. It's hard to justify. I have hit a point where I enjoyed the hunt, I've enjoyed the equipment and techniques I learned from you, but I just want to throw it all away (sell it, really). Of course I know the moment I do, I will regret it. And some of it is frustration of having very few places to fish anymore, some of it is the extreme pressure on the places I can, and some of it is personal stress. I fished twice all last year, and one of those I didn't even want to be out there.

Thanks to you guys, I've built my confidence up in trying new ways. My biggest new thing I've tried and been doing from watching you guys is open water fishing. yes I've made mistakes. A lot of my mistakes I've made, is felling to keep one simple bait rod rigged during tournament. I get caught up on jerk baits and spinner baits or Crank baits. For example, a tournament my partner and I fished. Jerk bait and spinner bait bite was on! My partner had a fish trailing his spinner bait, he was straight figured eighting this 16in buck male bass by the boat, like we're musky fishing. All I could was watching thinking damn wish I had a lil ball jig and grub tied on one of rods! Lol I've done hammered my megabass matt shad 110jr+1 all down this rock bluff wall. No bites, no chasers. Also like to add thanks for that favorite color video, why I dropped the bait I was "Matt Shad!" I do believe I will buy a few more in different sizes after Saturday! Great video Tim, and perfect timing with spring here in PA just starting. The bass haven't moved up yet into the shallows to spawn, a few week off. Was out today in the wind and rain and can attest to that. For me, I'm guilty of all of these, especially the "history" and reverting to finesse too soon - although finesse fishing is my biggest strength over power fishing. I hear you guys constantly saying burn burn pause, etc. And my takeaway from this video is to do just that, change up my retrieval and remember all 5 of your points because it's going to make me a better fisherman. I thought your list was spot on especially about swapping to finesse fishing too quickly. Also have had a bad habit of fishing worms too fast as I've gotten older I'm a bit better with that now. I'm always looking for new ways to fish or increase my understanding been bass fishing since I was five and I still feel like I've hardly broke the surface and I'm in my forties now. I would encourage anglers to find a bait they want to learn about then go out and use the knowledge learned. For me that was jigs some years ago and when I started using them I caught bigger quality fish including biggest bass I've ever caught right at 12lbs. You can reap the rewards if you are willing to try.

I would say that I am still new to fishing honestly. But I feel like I have improved so dramatically in the last year. And the #1 reason for that is I am not afraid to try to learn more. I think being a sponge anytime you are around other fisherman even if they have less experience than you do you can still learn from them. Everyone has different experiences on the water and it doesnt matter how long you have fished you havent experienced everything there is out there. So listening to people like Tim and Matt and any other angler that you are around is so important to learn and grow as a fisherman in my opinion. Dont try to be the smartest guy in the room all the time, try to learn the most in the room.

When I bring 4 rods and a backpack full of countless lures and bags of soft plastics, I get “anchored” and I’m reluctant to switch spots. Some of my best days, and most FUN days are walking the bank with just ONE rod and a finesse underspin. When are you guys going to make a segment on your new TB underspin?? Lipless crankbaits for me tend to work best if I run it at a moderate, moderate-fast pace and give the rod an upward “pop.” Don’t break reel speed, just pop. Drives them up the wall, and if they want a LC, that will get them bit.

The thing about being a local is the fish get used to the same old lures. Believe it or not, they do have memories and aren't as likely to take a bait that they've been caught on before. If there's any level of pressure on the lake, lures that they haven't seen before will be more effective. Of course I've read that bass have about a 6 month memory on these things and after that amount of time they'll hit the same lures. Which is why they tend to bite better in early spring if you're not a southerner. They're not as finicky because they haven't been caught 5 times yet. In the spring I've had the most luck with spinners and things that bring the most attention. After a few months they get wise to those presentations so I'll have to be more creative with my lures and retrieve.
