I got to know James Fort a little long after he’d gotten out of teaching. He played piano at Johnny Cace’s steakhouse in Longview on Friday and Saturday nights. I was a bus-boy - my first job. A nice man

This style of marching is very different to Highschool bands today.

Yep, military marching style... there are still quite a few high schools in East Texas that march this style while most schools throughout Texas and the country have moved on to corps/contemporary style marching.

@@rocketfan86 Would you say that this style of marching requires more coordination than today's marching?

@@codedinvictus2945 I could not give you a fair answer since I marched corps/contemporary style in high school and college but I grew to appreciate and enjoy the military marching style. In corps/contemporary style, if you miss a set, you can mark-time and slowly get back in formation. Military, you turn or stop too early/late, the band member sticks out. It's not a 'follow the leader' style either. A lot of the marches used are very technical and challenging too. I'm sure some military marchers and even current and former military band directors can give you more insight.
