I’ve been busy with an overseas move and was out of the loop for a while. So grateful to have it behind me and to be able to sit and catch up on your videos and my knitting. Lovely lovely short tour, thank you for that! It does look a lot like Florence. Really enjoyed seeing your spring plans. That dress!!! Happy belated 50th!

I share your experience with sleeves shortening over time. I make the sleeves about inch longer than I think I need and re-block if needed. It really does work! Also the sleeve on the At The Seaside pattern is called a saddle raglan. It’s very pretty and so easy to seam. Thank you for another beautiful vlog, Lisa. (BTW you are rocking 49 and have an ageless beauty. You remind me of Audrey Hepburn.) ❤

I live in theDallas, TX area. I find that I just don’t get a lot of wear out of sweaters that have 3/4 length sleeves. If it’s cold enough to wear a sweater then I need my whole arm covered. I love your knitting content, I got some great ideas!I just started knitting again after a “break” of about 40 years. 😊I just made my first sweater a couple of months ago, working on another one for my 17 year old granddaughter.

looking forward to your upcoming pattern videos! I would actually love to see if you find cool patterns for using up those smaller 1-2 skein amounts of yarn in garments- stripes are the go-to of course but would love to see if there are other options you find. I bought too many hat/sock projects and then got tired of knitting them, would love to use them thoughtfully in a garment.

Great idea! I’ll look into it. The thing, of course, is with garments the sizing changes the yarn amount so much! There are certainly some tanks and tees I can think of!

Great for learning new techniques though. I'm going to suggest different categories for the free patterns 🤗😁. Happy knitting 🧶🧶

About your quest to make a top with a built in bra, just thinking out loud…I’ve seen patterns knit a purl row on the stockinette side and when your done, you can pick up stitches through the purl bumps and then knit the top half of the top going bottom up and maybe knit 2sts together along the edges, to tack the sides together? I’d be curious to know your thoughts…I might actually try this on the Audrey too by Petite knits.😊

Is that the European way, to cast on at the top of the garment? When I was little (1960s, USA)my great aunt started to teach me, and she always cast on at the bottom of the garment. Is one way better?
@Lisamakes
@Lisamakes 3 ай бұрын
Hello! Casting on at the top of a garment, or top down knitting, has become the more popular way to knit garments in the last 10-15 years. It was invented in the US and continues to be popular all over. It allows the knitter to knit a garment seamlessly, try on as they go to check fit, and judge the length of the body and sleeves based on how much yarn they have left. I would say 90% of my garments were knit top town. It’s not a case of better or worse, just personal preference. ❤️

Your videos are fascinating.Question My daughter went on her honeymoon in Oct 2023 to Spain and Portugal For my birthday she said I will get you any yarn you want that you could not get in Calif. So she went to 2 yarn stores in Madrid and ( I had told her I want the softest merino they have) Each store told her that is junk yarn???? She called me on FB and I tried to explain the yarn wt and content. She was sold alpaca and acrylic and cotton wool .Very disappointed did not have sweater quantities .In Lisbon she was sold Katia merino beautiful yarn but I can get that here all day long. Was it a language issue or because she was an american who did not speak spanish or portuguese? Out of the 3 shops the one in Lisbon was the most helpful. Am I crazy
@Lisamakes
@Lisamakes 4 ай бұрын
That’s so weird! The only thing I can think is that there are many many “mercerias” which are smaller shops with a mix of knitting and sewing, and they often have more acrylic yarns because they are cheaper. It may just be that she wasn’t at a knitting specialty shop. There are only a few in Madrid. In Barcelona I know several! What a shame. I don’t think it was because she’s a tourist, though.

The sweaters people are buying to "reclaim the yarn" are *needed* by individuals who can not afford to walk into a store and buy them new. Yes, I realize that for many knitters, the only way to afford a sweater-quantity of yarn is to reclaim yarn from a vintage or thrifted sweater. For those knitters, frogging an existing sweater is a reasonable option. Folks who can afford yarn - especially those who can afford top shelf yarns - might want to consider that they are taking the opportunity to have something a little nicer than a used sweatshirt away from someone who really needs it. Having worked at an agency that assisted women who were rebuilding their lives (after cancer or job loss or fleeing an abusive relationship...) I have seen firsthand the emotional boost that something as simple as a nice sweater - even an "outdated" one - can give a woman who has felt unattractive or undeserving for years. For the people who need to reclaim yarn to knit sweaters, I would make a suggestion: *ANY "second-hand" yarn* - whether it's reclaimed from a FO or purchased as unused yarn - should be placed in the freezer for at least 5 hours (or overnight) to kill any bugs, larvae or eggs. Steaming will generally kill mature bugs and larvae, but most eggs will survive steaming and hatch later to invade surrounding yarn & garments.
@Lisamakes
@Lisamakes 4 ай бұрын
Thank you for taking time to leave such a heartfelt response. I can’t agree with you, simply because of the huge volume of clothing on the second hand market. Our world is flooded with it. I believe everyone should try to buy second hand first- not just clothing but other goods- and then new if they can’t find what they are looking for. The impact on the planet from all this consumption we do as a society is very costly. However, I totally respect your opinion and am glad we have a forum on KZbin to discuss things.
