Spring Light Watercolour Tutorial

This demonstration creates a highly expressive spring landscape using lots of splatter and wet into wet techniques.

Brushes
Goat Haired Calligraphy Brush
The brush used in this demonstration was purchased from Jackson’s Art. I regularly use the Large and Medium sizes of this brush. Please see the link below:

In addition to the brushes above I used an old half-inch decorators brush and an old toothbrush within this demonstration
Paint
I use a variety of paint brands including Daniel Smith and Windsor & Newton in both the Cotman and Artist’s range. The Cotman colours are very economic to purchase and are used by both students and professional artists including Sophie Knight RWS. Colours used Cotman Raw Sienna, Lemon Yellow, Gamboge Hue, Burnt Sienna, Alizarin Crimson and Intense Blue.

Paper
Fabriano Artistico The paper used for this demonstration was Fabriano Artistico EW 140lb NOT. This is a 100% cotton rag paper with a beautiful bright white surface that aids the creation of vibrant translucent watercolours.

Palette
Manufactured by Stewart these are very light and strong. Palette The large open mixing area encourages loose expressive colour mixing.

Fabulous! May I ask what you have painted the board with?

Hi Janice thanks you for your encouraging comments. The board I use is just a piece of laminated chipboard cut from the door of some old bedroom furniture. This gives it a non porous coat making it easy to clean and preventing it from soaking up too much water during the creation of a painting.
