It's Maria - How are you Asia? Thank you for sharing your planting system, it's Very helpful. I have a tip: After you draw all your bed charts make several copy sets to use the following years. In your current set before you start filling them in with your plant choices, 3 hole punch them and put them in a narrow 3 ring binder. At the top of each page you can write the current year. When that growing season or bed is done producing you can move those sheets to a big 3 ring binder. For those like me that don't have a good memory you can write notes on the sheets and refer back to them when needed. Happy gardening!

Hey Asia. Great job with your crocheting 🧶. I love your planning for the garden 🪴. I need to adopt your method. I started out strong last year but things went awry 🤦🏽♀️. Some things didn’t do well where I put them so I got a little discouraged but I know better this year. Thanks for sharing ❤happy gardening 👩🏽🌾 ❤😊

LOL - just like how you know a cookbook is good when it's got flour and oil stains... you know that's a good garden planner when there's dirt on the pages!!! I like how you plan each bed like that, I try to draw out my whole garden, then I never have room to write out the details.

You can plant the squash seeds directly the end of June & more the end of July. The bugs have a season & will die in the Summer heat.

I dont buy journals but i do buy cheap note books to plan my garden 😅.I was writing out my plans for my garden TODAY! i got my seeds from the freezer and counted out what i want to sow.The biggest problem for ME! is things that need trellising. I purchased a trellis and have to put it together. Im mostly planting bush beans but do have a few beans that need a trellis. So i have to sow those running beans FIRST and then use it later for my cucumbers or other running veggies. So i have to plan everything out to the tee lol. The other thing that can mess me up is the weather( weather is changing like crazy lately even past your frost times) .I actually will be starting my peppers soon here in 9a.❤

You might want to try planting Blue Hubbard squash as a trap crop because vine borers perfer them. I've also seen vine borer traps on Amazon.

Hi Asia thanks for sharing how you plan out your garden. I had decided that this year I was definitely going to do a planner to help me coordinate how and where to plant all of my veggies and flowers. I ordered a garden planner off of Amazon to help me, but your technique is really nice. Thanks for always being so helpful and realistic with gardening. By the way your crochet sets are looking absolutely beautiful. Thanks for always sharing great content.💕

Hey! I’m also in the same zone as you and STRUGGLE with growing zucchini because of SVB. I was watching a video from Meg Grows Plants that was talking about how squash varieties that are “cucurbita moschata” do better in our region because the stems are more narrow making it less enticing for the SVB to lag their eggs. Hope this helps!

Hey girl! I had some luck deterring the squash vine bores. I do not spray or use any pest control at all. I tried trap crops last year and it worked beautifully! So I learned that the vine bores overwinter in the soil, so they are hard to get rid of completely. Im agraid they will still get to your squash. Maybe consider planting a couple of the squash that you know they will eat as food for them? The idea is that they will eat those and not the ones you plan to harvest. I even went as far as to pick off and move some of the little worms to my "trap plant". I like to "sacrifice' at least one of my broccoli or Kale plants for the same reason. I find that they really do leave the others alone if there's a safe place to eat lol. 😂

@DawnRK320419 күн бұрын
@@carleanr4051 I’ve listed the link to where I bought mine. I got two in one pack. I can’t say they are foolproof, but I did have greater success last year, so I’m going to try again. It’s basically a sex pheromone that attracts them. Of course you wouldn’t want to use it if you don’t have a problem, but I have a massive problem. I gardened for a few years before they realized I grow squash. Ever since, I get only a couple squash before the plant dies from them.
@carleanr405119 күн бұрын
@ yes! That’s what happens to me. I get a few squash before they kill the plant. It’s definitely worth a try. Thank you!😊

Tromboncino are cucurbita moschata, and that type is more resistant to vine borers because of their thin, hard stems. I’m leaning into this type going forward. If you search that scientific term you’ll get a bunch of winter squash that are moschata. Tromboncino are perfect because they are a good replacement for zucchini which I struggle with. I’m growing parthenocarpic (don’t need pollination) cucumbers and one zucchini inside a protected structure to try and outsmart the pests. They won’t let me grow what I like!
@carleanr405119 күн бұрын
Tromboncino, does it taste anything like the yellow summer squash?
@emkn147919 күн бұрын
@ when you pick them very small they’re somewhere between zucchini and yellow squash but maybe a little firmer. Gotta pick them very small though otherwise the texture changes. If they’re happy the vine goes crazy. Let them fully mature and you can store it as a winter squash. Haven’t tried that yet.

Do you plan out succession plantings of the same place in the beds? So where the first row of beans is, do those beans stay there until you plant something for fall or would you come back and put something else there before your fall plantings? I am on year 3 of my garden and I still haven't quite figured out succession planting, and more difficult for me, succession placement yet.
@YellowDoorUrbanHomestead4 күн бұрын
Yes, throughout the summer beans will be in that spot. That’s what I plan to do but in all honesty once they die out I could plant another vegetable there. Succession sowing is basically just making sure something is growing so that you can get the best use of your beds and growing time to get the most harvest possible. I hope this helped.

@YellowDoorUrbanHomestead17 күн бұрын
They normally still look good halfway through August. They start to look really rough in September (I believe). Yes, I’m planning to direct sow everything but lettuce in February.
