OMG I never seen a adult use a bobber anywhere let alone a small stream fishing for steelies or trout. I can't stop laughing. Ok I saw enough, 2 minutes was my limit.

Another great video to watch, Fray! Always enjoy your content and love the different camera angles of your float drops. Perfect rod and pin combo for the smaller creeks and also tree covers. Are those spawn bags you use cured or uncured. They look fantastic. The fish can’t resist them. Great content my friend, loved it.
@FishFray Жыл бұрын
Thanks as always for the watch and comment! I fish with cured spawn 99% of the time. Either a Sugar/salt cure, or pautzke borxofire. I have tons of confidence in both cures, when the bait is fresh they never disappoint !

First, very nice sound track in the background, soft and etherial...no heavy metal that so many of these otherwise great vids use. Respectful of the wonderful natural places you are catching these amazing coastal rainbow salmonids. I am in Santa Fe New Mexico and have NEVER caught a Steelhead, we have monster browns and gorgeous Alpine lake cutthroats' but oh man I would love one of those on the end of my 4WT...are you in Michigan ?

I just bought a pinland! I need to find a decent reel for it without going broke. Its my first certerpin but im really experienced with super light tackle. I used to get pike pushing 40 in a creek that small on my ultralight. Also, my buddy got a 31 from the chagrin day before easter so they're not ALL small. Back in the day when id fish elk, i always thought the ohio fish were bigger on average. But yeah, im excited for this next year, id kill to have access to a spot like that

Erie tributaries have been sooo hit or miss.. Almost seems like there aren't fish in the river, but I caught a steelhead early last month on a bead and chinook spawn. People think walleye are moving in too, but it's just a bit preseason for fish to be in there thick and in good numbers. 🤔

As far as a steelhead not that big, being they can easily run in the double digits but as far as the landlocked version, "rainbow trout", quite nice. I suppose that's why it's confusing for some people. Steelhead are the same species as rainbow trout yet t,he steelhead will migrate back and forth from salt water and thus achieve some astronomical proportions even approaching 50 plus pounds.
@tylerrauch4655 Жыл бұрын
not sure how many of those were actually steelhead fish. they look a lot more like a rainbow. but awesome
@VS0097 Жыл бұрын
I'd say the one at 3:44 and the one at 4:53 were steelheads

I have done it, but I don’t understand the use of a bobber.
@dusant4278 Жыл бұрын
The bobber is here to maintain always same depth of lure and to see when fish bite and when is time to do action.
@tommyhunter1817 Жыл бұрын
@@dusant4278 used them on the Big Manistee in Michigan but I catch more fish using a hook and a few split shot with salmon eggs or corn bumped along bottom. I agree it is heart-stopping when that bobber “goes down”.
@FishFray Жыл бұрын
I'd say the main benefit of a bobber for me is that it lets me drift down into an area without being snagged

This is the worst time to be in the tiny headwater creeks, this is when and where they spawn and reproduce naturally, let them do their thing and stick to the dropbacks that have done their duty already, they fight and bite much better anyhow.

@smokey4086 Жыл бұрын
If you want to be a purist, you guys don't even have steelhead. They are lake run rainbows. A steelhead is an anadromous rainbow. You need the ocean or sea for a fish to be "anadromous"
