Spring’s All Muddy and the Pond’s All Dry comes from West Virginia fiddler Burl Hammons. On fiddle it’s typically played in Cross A tuning AEae; on banjo Standard A aEAC#E.
The A part is similar to the tune Say Old Man I want Your Daughter, except this is more crooked. A delightful part is where the ending tonic note in the A part also serves as the first note of the B part of the tune.
