It’s quite common! It’s like how hares go from brown to white! It was a survival adaptation to help them survive in the winter!

Birds in spring would pick at that to line the nest before laying eggs . The wonder of nature it has it reason for what happens and uses for all animals

We always see fallen bird nests after a bad summer storm and they will be lined with light yellow hair!❤

Our donkeys are dark, in the winter they are much lighter and you can clearly see their “cross” down their backs. In the summer, you can hardly see it at all

Skin is as healthy as can be, no rain rot at all. Nice smooth copper coat underneath, he just always tends to shed very quickly all at once.🤷🏼♀️

Not sick, just a gangly old TN Walker. He finally passed away last November at 25 years old. He was still healthy and suddenly passed from bladder stones. We miss him, but be sure he was healthy and well loved his entire 24 years with us.❤

Nope, skin as healthy as can be...nice and smooth. I have experienced rain rot with a horse we bought at auction years prior...and it is scaling and crusty bumps. Streak just always looks crazy for a week or so when he suddenly "pops" his winter coat.🤷🏼♀️

Usually shedding is equal over most of the body. This horse "shed" very excessively both sides at the wither area (spotty: rain rot pattern) no other location with that amount of hair releasing when pulled in same way as "rain rot" area. Note the dirt on ends (closest to the skin) of the hair pulled out, this is very typical of rain rot. Rain Rot hair loss defies the typical, usual, normal shedding process and patterns, as seen here. Just sayin' Not hatin'
@katystephenson908 Жыл бұрын
I have seen and experienced rain rot myself. The areas are scaly and crusty spots. He was a little dirty, but the skin was as smooth and as healthy as can be! He just sheds his coat all at once, unlike my other horses who shed gradually over a week or two.🤷🏼♀️
