Spring Snowstorm Slams Our OFF-GRID Log Cabin. Homesteading in the Storm. March 2024

A major 3-day storm brings fresh new snow to the homestead. In this video we homestead through the storm. All hands-on deck to remove the snow, in reality, Shane does most of the removal as we now have our brand new 8-week-old Basset Hound puppy named Ole. Ole needs constant watching over which is a little like watching a toddler get into everything! Hilarious to watch us try to get homesteading tasks done! Despite Ole's attempts at delaying progress, we clean out the greenhouse and make homemade Pine Sol. It is so fun watching Ole play in the fresh snow, it's his first-time seeing snow. Our solar power suffers in the storm and we rely on the generator to charge up the batteries - however after the storm is clear blue skies and we're able to equalize the batteries with the sun Thank you so much for watching and hope you have a great week! -Shane and Lindsey Krumrie

Hello! I think the chickens are jealous too - they're getting better about it though. Now that they can get more separation from the dog and still be outside, they're warming up to him. I think Ole wants to be friends with the chickens, lol! Thanks for the nice comment. Hope you have a good night!

I know, I can't believe how much we got this time of year... happy for it thought because it will give our maple trees much needed water and also help fill the streams with raging water! Hope to catch a couple waterfalls next week! Can't wait for snowmelt - it's one of the best times of the year!

We got about 6 inches here in the Milwaukee area. It was gone in a few days. Ole sure enjoyed that!

Looks like that puppy is going to be a handful 😂. This last snow storm really hurt after getting spoiled with all the great weather but the moisture was badly needed.

This puppy is totally a handful, lol! Tough to get things done sometimes! He's totally worth it though:) We thought the snow would just melt away very soon after the storm - it so surprising how long it's staying and how the cold is staying too! Ha, feels like going backwards a bit - glad for the moisture. I wonder if we're going to get even more snow before it's all said and done. This weekend sounds to be nice! I love the plastic shovels too, the snow doesn't stick to them as much. The only plastic one we have right now is the little kid red one, which I do use down by the chicken coop. Agree, nice and light. Thanks for commenting.

I agree, the weather has been strange everywhere! We're still looking forward to spring, this was just a little set back, but very beautiful. Yes a lot of snow for sure. It won't last too long before it melts and we'll be ready for planting! Ole has already grown and it's only been one week since we got him, he's going to get big fast, it's so fun watching him. I'm trying to remember how to take care of a puppy, it's been so long. It was so great to get this snow, we needed it for the moisture. This winter was so dry compared to most here so when this snow came we were thankful. Should help with all sorts of things around the woods and rivers and lakes. Thank you for the nice comment, we love him too and agree, he is SO cute! Have a good night.

Yes they do have their own agenda, especially with that nose! They are a bit stubborn too, we had two basset hounds previously and really enjoy them. It's been great watching our son helping with him. Thanks for the comments 😊

We were okay with it since we didn't have very much snow to clear this winter, so it was kind of fun. Shane did get a little tired though! That's how our planting goes around here, we're in gardening zone 3 and the weather is very unpredictable until the first week of June. I'm still hopeful for an early season this year though! Thank you for the nice comment! 70s sound nice with fruit trees blooming! The snow is welcomed here because we need the moisture and it made everything look so good on a bluebird sunny day after the storm finally left. Morel mushrooms are the best and they grow like crazy where Shane and I are from in Southeastern Minnesota... do you mind me asking where they're growing good for you right now? They usually don't start growing in SE MN until May... they are the best mushroom and the absolute most fun to hunt for!

We love the snow, usually we're so sick of it by March but this year was a strange year because of the El Nino so we didn't get very much, so this was very welcomed. I don't think the chickens thought so though, lol!
