I found your channel a few days ago and it has been so inspiring! I have wanted to make my own wardrobe for years but have been hesitant to pick it back up. I took sewing classes in high school and used to do some alterations/tailoring when I was in college, but haven't touched my machine since I started working (and I'm pretty sure one of my sisters "borrowed" my machine -- permanently!). It feels very intimidating to start again from square one, and especially to make my own garments from scratch, but your videos have motivated me to do it!!!! I love this video! It's inspiring me to actually try and plan what I'm making for spring/summer instead of winging it like I usually do, haha. I think my most-worn garment that I made last year is a Byrdie button up in a Kaufman light wash 6.5 oz denim. It's perfect! I've worn it so much layered and alone, it's soft and wearing in so nicely. I've also had vests on the brain this week, I keep seeing them on insta over a billowy dress and it looks so cute. Also, a tote video would be great! I got a nice zippered one from work that I keep using and I've been thinking about making one for myself in a pretty fabric.

Thanks, Danielle! I usually wing it, too (I mean, I am on Pinterest way more than I probably need to be, but this year I finally decided to get a little organized about it haha). Ah that makes me so happy that you are wearing and loving the Byrdie! And big YES to a vest layered over dresses!! Love that. I have so many styling ideas for that one. And good to know about the tote--I will do a video on that for sure. I got rid of so many tote samples that I made when I had my other business and I think I need new totes!

Thank you for sharing your enthusiam for sewing your own clothes ~ it keeps me inspired. I'm new to your channel and website..but I like your pattern styles and am considering ordering one to try. However, I have a question...You mentioned you were tall...me too...5'8 with a back waist length of almost 18 inches. I"m a pretty consistent medium...12-14 in ready wear which makes so many styles just TOO short waisted to look good...which is why I love sewing my own clothes! However, I still have to lengthen pretty much every fitted to semi-fitted bodice pattern pieces. So my big question is??? Do you design your patterns for longer waisted women? or do you use the standard pattern measurements in the industry? I'm intrigued by how many garments you create by tweaking certain classic patterns. I've honestly never tried that but it would be super convenient if I could have an awesome fitted bodice pattern and just keep restyling it. Thanks again..
@PatternScout2 жыл бұрын
Yes, my patterns are designed to suit a slightly taller frame (I am 5'9") but I always recommend sewing up a muslin first and then lengthening if needed. I always have a hard time finding RTW styles that are long enough, too! Hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching! :)

Hi! I found your videos in KZbin today and I love your content! Can’t wait to hit your shop and pick up a couple of your patterns. Fun part is that we are basically neighbors! I live just south of you. I was curious, given the lack of fabric variety in Michigan, where do you get your fabrics? I used to go to NYC and even a few fun spots overseas, but that came to a screeching halt (ok, maybe I was the one screeching, cuz I hate to be “grounded”). Can’t wait to watch more of your videos. Oh, and as a complete oddity….. do you like to fly? Michigan is spectacular from the air! Have a great week! Shawnie
@PatternScout2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Hi neighbor! :) I usually end up at JoAnn for last minute shopping, but I also really like a little local fabric shop called Seams in East Lansing--great selection of thoughtfully sourced fabrics. Sometimes I'll pop over to Grand Rapids to go to Fields Fabrics (but I'm not always thrilled with their selection--mostly synthetics in their apparel fabrics). Another viewer also mentioned Haberman’s and Discount Fabric Outlet in Clawson, Michigan, so I may have to make a field trip one day! I also do a fair amount of fabric shopping online, especially if I have something specific in mind--Measure Fabric, Blackbird Fabrics, Fabric.com, and Moodfabrics.com are usually my go-tos.

@PatternScout2 жыл бұрын
I have gotten better with this very thing over time. I used to feel the same about a lot of my projects because pretty fabrics seduced me! :) Now, I try to build on pieces I already have that I like so my wardrobe feels more cohesive. I've also realized that I'm usually happier when I keep things simple (colors/patterns) and stick to mostly natural fibers.
