Thanks Randall for the mite treatment update. Sorry you got the results you got. I had great hopes that you would get good results like last year. I don't use that product but I like to know what's doing what. I use OAV exclusively and get good results. I'll do a 24-day treatment of Oxalic acid every 4 days after I pull honey. I only have 20 colonies to deal with and I'm retired so I have the time to do what I do.

Thanks for the info! I use formic pro as well and have had great results. Hard to apply here in ohio for me cause it seems when I have free time the temperature is always against me since formic is tricky when it comes to temperature. My only bad experience was when i left 1 dose in my truck to apply to a colony later that week to a friend's colony. Basically once it's gets hot even though it wasn't the day of application it's toxic after that. So I keep it in the house for now on.

Everywhere is different but for me, I use two rounds of Oxalic vapor then hit them with an under the cappings treatment (trying to rotate it every year with a different product), I was told to never use the same product back to back, every other time was ok. The reason is that I have 1 or 2 hives in every yard that has a huge mite load. If it were not for them the one treatment way would still work. I would bet that you are right and that one hive would have pre-washed 60 or 70 mites.

When I get good ar rearing queens I will start culling out high mite count queens. The one thing I have noticed is some colonies have huge mite numbers and some have a few.

Thanks for the update on how your early season is going. In your treatment do you use the one pad treatments or the two pad treatment. ?Thanks Randall

I use 2 pad. It penetrates cappings better. 1 pad is more like a phoretic treatment.
