Hi Gav, very nice review! I just went to a shop here in Germany and they asked 89 Euro for the 10 years old and 170 for the 15 year. The place were I buy my whisky normally ordered 10 bottles of the new Sherry Expression and got none. So that changes perspectives a little. Lucky you living in Scotland near a Cadenhead shop. Great review. I think Springbank is simply cashing in on the secondary value of their product. This will sell for £300+ at auction so I think Springbank is taking a portion of what the bottle is actually valued at.

You should see the prices we have to pay in the US if we can even find it! Just got a bottle of the 2022 15 year old for $155.00 yesterday. First one I've seen on a shelf in years. Threw my name in The Whisky Exchange ballot for this one, too, and it'll cost me near $170.00 with shipping.

Gav, all the Springbank prices have increased since you purchased some of your bottles the 10 is now £50, 15 is £70, 18 is £110 & the 21 is £250. I agree that is expensive and thought it should have been priced around £70 matching the price of the Longrow Red 11 that was released the same week. Great review, agree its a good whisky so will enjoy every drop.

Great review. For someone who has seen the whole boom in Japanese whisky, I can say this is but the start of the Springbank increases, if only on the secondary market (I mean not maybe from the retailers side only). Here in Japan there is stocks, but the 30 is $4000, the 21 is $150, and the 10 you review is $500. Where these ca go is anyones guess, but with demand outstripping supply, it can only be up is my guess. Keep up the great reviews!

Hi Gav, great review of a dram I haven't yet managed to get hold of, but hoping to one day! Pricing does seem steep, but I think Springbank, like many others are realising that they can charge this amount and still sell out. It's also not their usual bottling from the core range, so I guess they feel they can charge more because of that (supply and demand). Anyway, enjoy the dram and keep up the good work! Cheers, John.
@welshtoro32562 жыл бұрын
That's exactly right John, you hit the nail on the head. The thing is, that's exactly the conclusion Macallan arrived at a number of years ago and they attract a lot of hate for that.
@larsrogers30812 жыл бұрын
Agree that it is expensive! But still way better value for money than Macallan, Dalmore and Ardbeg
@lucienvisser54052 жыл бұрын
Thank for this review. Prices you are mentioning from the core range are relatively ok i think when you bought them. If you think the current prices are double or more then what you paid, the 90 pounds is ok. But for just a bottle of 10 year old whisky it is ridicously expensive. I found the latest batches Benromach 10 cs a good and affordable alternative for the Springbank 12 cs. I can buy 3 bottles of it for 1 Springbank 12. (Which isn't available anyway). I love Springbank but it is becoming a downfall of its own succes. 5 years a go the shelves where full of unsold Springbank bottles nowadays you will be lucky to find the standard 10 yo, its a shame😔 Update: just did a search for the 18. Only available in one online shop for €400,= roughly £350,=, secundaire market between 350 en 600. So the 10 PX version is actually a bargain for the £90 considering the price hype of all Springbanks. The standaard 10 is actually also almost hitting the £100 mark in Holland. Such a shame.

Thanks for the review, Gav. If I could find that bottle here in the US for 90 quid, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Springbank is expensive over here and difficult to find. Looks like a great dram, for sure.

I completely agree with you Gav. There's no justification for the price for precisely the reasons you give. Some one, somewhere, might pay £10, 000 for the whisky in that bottle but it doesn't mean it's 'worth it'. I can see already in the comments the usual defence of Springbank because any criticism of that distillery is sacrilegious these days. If that was a 10 year Glendronach, for example, selling for £90 we would all be screaming from the rooftops about what a rip-it was and the owners of the distillery were sharks. I like Springbank but they should be subject to the same level of criticism as any other distillery.

another great review Gav. Prices for Springbank has exploded in NYC. The 18 is $300 - $400 which in my opinion its not worth the experience you get. This 10 yr old will probably priced around that range if not higher. Cheers

I didn’t chase this one either. Im saving my budget for the next 12 cask strength when it hits the market. Springbank Sherry is different from the standard Sherry matured stuff but it’s a mood thing for me, sometimes I love the 15 then next time I go back it’s not hitting the high notes like before. I’d rather this went to someone who would appreciate it more.

I guess it depends on where you live. Your Springbank prices are insanely low compared to the rest of the world. For comparison, the core range 10yr runs 100usd plus tax here at my local shop in the US. I'd say you got a bargain. Cheers sir and enjoy that PX!

Interesting views Gav, price seems to be in line with the Local Barley releases in my view. The price was actually a bit less than I thought it might be, thought it might be £100 RRP, haven’t opened mine yet so can’t comment on value for money for the experience. Also, the prices for the Springbank releases on your bar are sadly a thing of the past in the main, certainly for the 10, 18 and 21 and I wouldn’t be surprised if the next 12 CS is close to £70, doesn’t seem that long ago (4-5 years) it was about £48. Just the way prices are heading at the moment sadly. As you say we can always walk away as consumers if we think prices are over the top.

I'm waiting patiently for this to arrive at my local supplier. I, like you buy whisky to drink and also have open bottles of the 10, 12, 15, 18, 21 and a single cask 23. I hope to be able to get a bottle of this, but I am at the point with Springbank where I actually don't care if I do or don't because their pricing and availability has become ridiculous. They seem to be pandering to the collector who is only out to make a quick buck and not their loyal followers who actually enjoy drinking their whisky. Very sad indeed.
