Oh man love the descriptors “pulverized the lick-a-stick and dipped a penny in it!” One of the best palates in the game my friend. I agree with the other commenters give it a few weeks and come back to the bottle. The Springbanks open up nicely with time. Keep up the great content man!

High praise good sir! Thanks Hill! Yea that's the plan, been dipping in here and there and it does seem to be coming into it's own. Proper review coming! Hope you're doing well man! I'm down for a collab or maybe just a skype dram anytime!

The cask strength 12 is where it’s at. If you can find it at a reasonable price. Several yrs ago I bought two at $90 each. The 10 for me was a downer. I didn’t like it period. I sealed it and gassed it for a future date. Btw only bottle I have currently gassed. But when I bought it, the price was $65. So no biggie. $130 yikes ! It’s quality made so it’s not a waste. It’s just an opinion. Heck I may even enjoy it whenever I reopen it down the road. The 12 on the other hand is totally different for me. It’s very good. That said I still wouldn’t pay more than $150 for the 12. I do know what it’s like to overhype a whisky. And then be underwhelmed. I did that most recently with the Victoriana. However after not being initially impressed with it. It has grown on me as the level has gone down and now I’d look to purchase it again. So you never know, give it some time.

Yea, the 10 is most definitely not worth what I paid for it. Regret that one. I'll keep my eye out for the CS 12. We live and we learn! lol It's a shame when this happens but oh well, I very much doubt this will be the last time. Cheers!

I go back and forth with the 10. Sometimes I like it and other times I think it's overrated. I always like the 15. For me it's very consistent. I just picked up the 12CS, but have not tasted it yet. Nice review. Cheers!

Thanks Peter! Definitely want to try more of their range. The 12CS is pretty expensive over here so I might have to settle for a single pour somewhere lol. Looking forward to hearing what you think!

Dope to share this experience with you brother! Agree on the slightly rotten / fermented fruit descriptor!

Thanks Wade! Always fun to get an first time on camera....... Even if it was overpriced and underwhelming lol.

@@FreedsFirstTime_Whisky_Reviews Springbanks are definitely overpriced, but not due to them being better quality it's entirely scarcity driven. Give it a few months bro, will get better once it opens up.

I've had my bottle open for a couple of months now and followed along with your nosing and tasting. Your descriptions are always so unique and thoughtful and I was able to pick out most of them. The Laffy Taffy one was wild! In the end I've got to agree with you. This whisky is good, not great, and definitely suffers from an unrealistic hype. For the price and availability (hell, even the whisky itself) I'd probably take a Talisker 10 over this any day. Great video and review as always!
@FreedsFirstTime_Whisky_Reviews Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing about Kilkerran 12. I'll take that all day over this one at this point in the bottle's life. Thanks for drinking along! That's awesome. A proper sit down with this stuff is coming! Thanks man! I always appreciate your comments! Cheers

Just wait for a few weeks now the bottle is open. It will open up incredibly well. Springbanks are notoriously closed when they are freshly cracked. 👍🏻

That's the plan! Thanks for the tip. Been having a nip or 2 lately and it seems to be wanting to open up. Cheers!

Springbank 10 might a an acquired taste, and for sure as always a matter of taste, but it is also an expression subject to a lot of batch variations, but, in my opinion, unlike many other malts, most of the time for the best, I mean like a variation on a theme & a variation on the famous "Campbeltown funk" too (I did recently a comparison between 4 different batches of the 10 yo bottled at 46 %, plus a special one, if you wanna hear more about those variations, though I've yet to open my 2022 release I got after doing that video). Slainte !
@FreedsFirstTime_Whisky_Reviews Жыл бұрын
I hear you. I'd love to try different batches. I wouldn't say that the botte I have would be an acquired taste. There is nothing too challenging imo. Solid, yes, but definitely overhyped.

I thought you might be setting yourself up to be disappointed! Luckily for me, I have been drinking Springbank on and off since before it became a sought after cult whisky...

Yea, I expected more but we'll see later on down the bottle how she turns around. Proper review in the future! Cheers!

Cheers Andrew good to see a fellow Brit who might feel this is overhyped. But at least for its scarcity it isn't over priced if found.

I think the unbelievable weight of the Springbank name, coupled with the ridiculous prices they're going for these days can only lead to an underwhelming experience to the average drinker. Not to detract from the quality of the liquid. It's good, but its not THAT good. PS loving the convo with the cat
@FreedsFirstTime_Whisky_Reviews Жыл бұрын
I think you've hit the nail on the head Vin. I'll lower my expectations for the revisit. I'm expecting it open up and be better once it gets a little lower. Oh be prepared to for more cat convo! Dude is quite opinionated.....
@thewhiskyenthusiast Жыл бұрын
Sorry it was underwhelming for you but yeah definitely give it some time, go back to it and I think you'll enjoy it more than you do now. It's impossible not to hype something from Springbank these days so it's not surprising that you weren't wowed. Great review, though I have no idea about your references of fundip, lick-a-dick or ride the stick 😂
@FreedsFirstTime_Whisky_Reviews Жыл бұрын
Man, you've never had a lick-a-dick??? You haven't lived......hahaha yea man I am definitely going to give it a proper rundown in the near future. First cracks are inconsistent.
