Hey Rob, thanks for the direct compare, looks like they are pretty similar, which was not really the case with older bottlings, that also had sulphur from time to time. Happy to hear there is no sulphur influence on the newer batches. Can you please reveal the exact bottle codes? There are 3 bottlings from 2021 and already two from 2022. Thanks, Julian

@@WhiskyInThe6 I haven’t tried it, but I did try the 2021 I believe. It was part of that Springbank tasting pack that Jeremy reviewed which included the 10, 10 LB, 12, 15 and 25. It was just one dram, but I remember thinking that it wasn’t quite as good as the 2020. I was able to buy a few 2020s on Craft Cellars just before SB was completely impossible to get. I can tell you that the 2017 is just as dark as the ones you reviewed. All the 15s seem to have that dank, sweet and sour smell and ripe apple note on the arrival. I like having a dram of the 10 just to get used to the SB maltyness and then switch to the 15 afterward.

@@WhiskyInThe6 yeah, mike and I reviewed it. They used similar sherry to the LB I didn't care for, but they found a way to better balance that oak with the SB malt here. I'm not a huge fan of the 15 historically, but this one is the best of the 15's I've had. Much less funk that some past releases, some of those black box ones were down right sulfur and funk bombs. And this one is opening up more and more as well.

I find reviewers don't mention to what degree the malted barley flavor comes through. It is always nice to know whether malt whiskies are more malt forward, bourbon forward, and/or sherry etc etc. I have had too many bourbon forward (I'm assuming from the cask) scotches drowning out the malt flavor, which is a big disappointment.
@WhiskyInThe62 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. I tend to only mention the malt notes if they are clearly present. Usually when not very evident I don’t mention it at all.
@Themilkmanskid.2 жыл бұрын
@@WhiskyInThe6 No problem! I've noticed that not many malt whiskies have a dominant malt flavor and it's just that the barley malt flavor is so important to me, and it governs now whether I buy or not. I am really quite amateur at tasting as I've only had about 30 different barley malt whiskies total from 3 countries(mostly Scotland), but have noticed that the ones with malt as a prominent flavor I like the most. Yes maybe I sound selfish on requesting reviewers to concentrate a bit more on the malt flavor, and whether it comes through or not, but after all it is what a malt whisky is made from(could be my inexperience talking here I don't know). Thanks much for taking the time to reply and I still enjoyed your review! Looking forward to watching more by you, especially the ones on the whiskies from Japan, due to my discovering some of those fairly recently. Cheers and thanks for reviewing!🥃

Thanks for the review, I think Springbank 15 keeps getting better. Just opened a 2020 bottle and it’s terrible. Probably the worst Springbank I’ve ever had. Own both 21 and 22 releases but considering the market it probably takes me few years to open them.
