Springfield Armory XDS 9mm Pistol Review

I've owned the XDs 9mm for several years now. It happens to be my edc. It's just a fine, trust worthy gun. Never had a single hang up since I owned it. The point that I really want to make is that Eastern European craftsmen have been producing superb firearms for well over a century. Croatia included. Stop with these prejudiced remarks about the XD series of pistols being imported from Croatia to the US. I'm a two tour Vietnam combat veteran, and I dare anyone to say that I am unAmerican. A great gun is simply that, regardless of where it's manufactured, as long as it may possibly save my life one day.

What the hell is people's problem with Croatia? I have guns made in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, and Israel; as well as the United States. I say, the more, the merrier. Worldwide competition is how we got the plethora of excellent handgun choices we enjoy today. It's called the free market; and it's GREAT!

Heck yea, you nailed it on the head. Without competition guns and everything else would be garbage. He forgot to mention the highly polished bullet feed ramp. The grip safety is what sold me on this particular gun.

Picked this up last year. It’s a very reliable, durable gun and it’s fun to shoot. Controllable, versatile and nimble. Dual mag release, low recoil, additional safety features… I give it a 9/10.

My XDs 3.3 9mm FDE is by far the best 9mm I have ever owned. I have/have owned Glocks, Sigs, and Rugers. When I bought the gun I took it straight to the range and put 200 rounds through it right out of the box. Flawless function and dead-on accuracy. Fit and finish excellent. I would highly recommend you try it out.

fyi to anyone considering, I just purchased my XD-S from my local Fin Feather and Fur, and springfield was running a "gear-up" program that ends I believe 6/30/2017. I purchased the gun at retail, which came with everything he listed in this review, and with a mail-in form I recieved in the mail a paddle holster, a 2 magazine holster, four magazine grip extensions, two 8-round magazines with attached grip extension, AND two 9-round magazines with attached grip extensions. So for retail price, and a little patience on mailing, I have a nice hard shell case, holsters, and 6 magazines!!! Well worth the purchase!!!

I have this in 45 ACP and its my concealed carry when I'm wearing my suit going out with my wife when she wants to go out on a fancy date night. I trust this gun with our lives.Great review and God bless brother.

Excellent review, and thank you for it! I own a Smith Shield 45, and was considering as my EDC; however, with my young kids always grabbing and hanging on me and keeping one chambered it made me more safety concerned about and accidental discharge. The XDS is the only concealable size that I could find with the extra grip safety which its biggest selling point for me. I could care less about country of origin, I prefer function over flash and name brand any day. What I care about is quality and reliability, and yea, I did some extensive personal research before my XDS purchase. I was sold on the beefy slide rails and polished feed ramp.

xds 9mm was my first gun 🔫 since it first came out about 4 or five yrs ago. mines is all black and its my edc gun. I appendix carry this tool. I have close to 3k rounds shot through it. it has never failed me . it doesn't like hornady bullets , but does love gold dot 124g . its actually a hair thinner than the shield . if you change from red to green fiber optic it will glow even more when outside shooting. this is the perfect edc pistol you can carry a 7 round my with pinky extension and the 9 round as your back up. excellent gun

I have an xds, xd40 subcompact and xdm elite 9mm and have never had a single failure on any of the 3.

I've had one for about a year as my primary carry. It makes a great range gun, almost target accuracy, I expect to get 1" groups at 7-10 yards. My XDS has been purchased after a number of upgrades, Glock 17/22 (those I still own but not carry), Taurus 740 (reliable, but sold on), bought a Sig 250 SC, nice but bulky, but sold, traded to XDS. Awesome. I thought the grips would be bad on the hands, but don't notice. It pocket carries in my jeans with a thin holster. for IWB I use a De Santis inside heat. They only smaller gun may be a bodyguard 380 (have one but prefer my XDS). It's the Perfect gun.

I just got one of these (9mm) for my concealed carry weapon, and on the first shot, it was spot on target. Super easy to shoot and hits your target accurately right out of the box. I got a special package deal which came with 5 mags (9 (2 of them), 8(2 of them) and 7), hip holster and mag holster, cleaning kit, etc. All I had to buy was ear protection and ammo. It also has a slim profile, which is great for concealed carry. I prefer to use the larger mags to add an additional finger grip because my hands are bigger, but it still has a low profile with the longer mags. Awesome weapon. I would definitely recommend it for new users because it is so easy to get on target from the first shot. Great review video. Thanks for sharing it. You are my go-to guy for checking out new weapons.

Got an XDS Mod 2 and I love it. Its the perfect size for a concealed edc handgun. Even though there's other similar ones like the Glock 43 , I chose the XDS simply because everyone else seems to get the Glock and there's absolutely nothing wrong with the XDS its an extremely well made handgun and hasn't failed/jammed once.

LOVE My S.A. pistols. I regularly carry an XDM 3.8 Compact, and I love it. Everyone shoots it well, great ergonomics, and never had an issue with the grip safety that many freak out about.

I have the XDS 4.0" barrel 9mm Bi-tone. It shoots well!!! I have shot the 3.3, but the 4.0 is more stable and accurate with less muzzle flip. A really great pistol in either barrel length!!!

When I was a new shooter I shot a glock 17 and a xds when I’d shoot. And I had noticeably smaller grouping with the xds and the trigger pull had better control than the dreaded glock trigger. I recommend this pistol highly it’s not the prettiest but it just works where it needs to and it fits in the hand nicely.

I have xds in 9 mm great weapon no hang ups. I happen to carry with the 9+1 very confortable. Thin no printing. I like the grip safey and trigger safety for carry. Will not be sorry if you purchase one.

I've had the XDS-45 and I can't express enough how high the quality is, thank you Croatia for this pistol. I've also had the Glock 43 and Sig P365 which are nice too, so I guess I can thank Austria and Germany too, but so many people crap on Croatia because they don't have the same "track record". Well, I can say after having the XDS-45, Glock and Sig, I want to get the XDS-9, preferably with the stainless slide because it IS a higher quality pistol and even has less recoil. No kidding here, just experience.

I just acquired the .45 acp version of this. It's so comfortable in the hand and we'll designed gun. I havnt gotten to the range yet but tomorrow I'm gonna go fire off a couple hundred rounds and see how it does. I've been carrying the XDS 9mm for several years now. I installed the Powder River Precision Trigger kit which took about 1.5 lbs off the trigger pull and smoothed it out. I also put on their Xtreme grip. Both were good (and inexpensive) upgrades. The only thing I don't like about it is that the fiber optic front sight can fade indoors (range) or in lower light. I'll probably put on night sights at some point, but I really like it for CC.

Love your reviews, keep up the good work. I own both a XDm and XDs in 9mm. I replaced the triggers in both with a Powder River Precision trigger upgrades. I would highly recommend PRD, as the stock trigger on both of my SA XDm and XDs were terrible.

This is my every day carry pistol, fired over 1000 rounds out of this pistol and have never had a problem. I usually carry it loaded with an 8 round mag, and 2 spare 9 rounders on opposite hip, gives me 27 rounds total with one in the chamber. I agree that the best thing about this weapon is the sites, I can quick shoot it better than any of my other pistols.

Springfield Armory had that big recall. When I sent my XDS 45 in, they kept it for 6 months. They did the recall and did not have a solution to their trigger problem. I asked them to return my pistol until they had a solution and they refused. When they finally returned it, the trigger pull was so hard I had to put a spring kit in it. I did that and immediately sold it. Springfield arms will never see a dime of my money. They should go out of business.

Excellent review. Thanks for that. Love both my 45 & 9. One of my favorites. I own a lot of different brand firearms and rotate my CCW every month but I have to say I really like both my XDS. I have customized my XDS 45 as far as adding Crimson Trace, Talon grips, replacing the barrel & spring and having a custom IWB Holster to adapt to the Crimson Trace that I installed. Absolutely dependable, fits perfect on my hand, very thin, and reliable. have not had any issues. Fun to shoot. I find the same on the 9mm which I left alone stock. Definitely one of my favorite to conceal carry between my Kimber's and XD's.

I love my XDs. I personally think the Springfield is a step-up in quality from the Shield and Glock. I would love for someone to do a review on the PRP springs for these guns too...though the factory trigger is perfectly acceptable for concealed carry. When I purchased my XDs, Springfield was doing a magazine promotion with the purchase of a new firearm, so I ended up geting an extra 7 rnd., an 8 rnd, and a 9 round magazine for free. I was so stoked!!

I have the 3.3 in 9mm and love it. Hundreds of rounds without one single problem. I have a Talon grip on mine, much more comfortable to me. I also have the rare Springfield 9 round extended mag. Only negative to me, and it's minor, is it is slightly on the heavy side compared to the competition. It's worth noting that the grip safety only affects the trigger. My XDM grip safety affects the trigger and the slide. This gun is head and shoulders above the Shield, it's like a Chevrolet vs a Buick IMHO.

The one thing I like about these sights is when I was shooting mine on an overcast day. The front site picked up the light to the point where the red fiber optic look like it was glowing.

I have had all three and I still have an XDS and a Shield. Carry both in the same QCC holster from JM4 tactical. Best carry holster ever so fast and so comfortable. No more Kydex for me.

love the XD line. It began when the first gen line came out, and looking to add another pistol with my Glock 19. Found the XD 5" 40 cal, to shoot well, better than the Glock 22 for me. Then added 5" mod2 in 9mm after testing it on a range, firing 200 rounds and thought better get one. Month ago added a 4" 9mm in mod 2 frame to replace the glock19. Glocks are good but XD are a bit better in my hand. I was pleased to see you finished a review on the 9mm XDs. Perfect timing as Im looking into single stacks with an open mind. Top on the list is XDs, S&W Shield, Walther PPS, and Glock 43.

I went with the 4.0 since I carry IWB. Wish I had found one in grey. The grip safety function is no issue in use. Great for summer concealed carry because it is thinner and slightly shorter than my G19. Thanks for the source for spare magazines.

I recently dumped an XDS 4.0 in favor of an excellent CZ P0-1 that I Cajunized to go along with my CZ PCR that was done by CGW. Both with the PRO upgrade. The only Springfield I would have is one of their 1911 models except for a stainless one, which I dumped last year in December.

FYI: There are factory 7, 8 and 9 round magazines so you can have up to 9 +1 for the legal 10 round capacity in some states.

I got the 9mm and love it. I added crimson trace laser and talon grips. If you can find the 10rd mags it makes it even more fun to shoot. I use them as my backup mags. Thanks for sharing!

Just got my XDS 9mm. $299.00 with $200.00 worth of extras included! Shoots awsome! Had 600 rds thru it in the first 2 days. Sights are improved also. Came with flush mag, 2 extended mags, dual mag holder, plastic case, lock, range bag, target, cleaning brush, and holster!

I just traded my Springfield 911 in 9mm for the xds in 9mm smdh that 911 I love everything about it besides all the jamming and hang ups, but I love xds 9mm I've had 3 or 4 over the years , great video thanks for posting

I like most modern day guns, but my edc (for the last 3 years) has been my 9mm XDS. I love it! It's reliable, I shoot it well, and I've never had an issue with it! I'm at 1,150rds, and counting. (Disclaimer: I'm not a hardcore gun guy. I go out and shoot every few months, and I clean when I get board) I wish they made a grey frame/stainless steel slide version.

Loved the video, and I love this pistol. Own the bi tone and carry it 7+1 with a 9 round backup mag everyday. Probably the best ss9 you can own for 400$ even. Some on sale for the 380 range used but like new.

Bob Bossi check out Osborne Holsters. They will even do custom for instance I have a Viridian C5L on mine (most companies don't do that combo) and they are a great price compared to other companies.
