I have an original 1911 from ww1 mfg, 1918 , my father traded a shotgun to it in 1974 , from the man who brought it home in 1919 when he was discharged from the army , it will shoot anything you put into it , it doesn't care , flat nose , round nose , no nose , hollow point ,cast or FMJ still with its original magazine and spring , never had a jam up in at least 1000 rounds that I've shot though it , I inherited it in 1998 .

The Springfield Mil Spec Defender is my EDC. No complaints. No failures to feed. Also, for best results, use 230 hardball (Federal, PMC). They weren’t designed in 1911 for JHP. If you want JHP go get a little 9mm.

@richardkluesek43013 жыл бұрын
Wilsons were arguably the most advanced magazines. Eight round capacity are fine when new but over time the springs lose tension. In flush fit standard Government frame length the 7 round count is much more reliable. If using an 8 rounder the tube should be about a quarter of an inch longer projecting from the butt for equal reliability, the same length as a SiG 220 or Ruger P345. I make mention from the experience of having all 3 sidearms with a dozen magazines for each. For 1911 I use Wilson 47C and old fashioned GI surplus magazines. As the Wilson 8 round springs fatigue and get lazy with hold open and drop free issues I replace these for the 7 round capacity springs. But they always feed.

How would this compare to a RIA 1911? Honestly debating on the two
@BuckeyeBallistics Жыл бұрын
Depends on which model you want compared. I do like Rock Island a lot though. I had the very cheapest model and I was impressed with it for the price, preferred it over the cheapest Tisas. But the Tisas 1911A1 Service blew it out of the water. I would say for the money of this Springfield, I would go with that Tisas 1911A1 Service, or the Remington R1- I was very impressed with those two and they are about the same price as this specific Springfield here. I have never shot a better than the bottom version RIA though, so I suspect it would likely outclass the Springfield price for price as well if you got an upgraded model. Nothing wrong with the Springfield though, just not quite as smooth as the two I suggested over it. A higher up model Springfield would be, but it would cost more because it says "Springfield." Check out my 1911 playlist for the other reviews...

Not a bad review, buuuuuut.....Just admit you are an average shot dude, "the light" , never heard the term "New gun jitters" before, don't be someone pretending to be the uber marksman, just do your thing. And 1911's handle 230 grain ball ammo, by design from Mr Browning. Unless you get a polished ramp in a 1911, don't use hollow points. 230 ball will do it's thing
@BuckeyeBallistics3 жыл бұрын
When I said "new gun jitters," I was commenting on the 2 hang ups we had with the gun feeding; basically I was trying to say it still needed broke in. So I wasn't making an excuse for *my* performance, I was making an excuse for the guns permormance... Also, considering that was my first shots ever with the gun (I do not practice off camera first before recording like other channels do), I would say I did pretty well considering I only missed a few that were smaller around than a human head- and I only missed those because I was trying to shoot semi-rapid. And, also, I would glady refer you to several of my videos where I have shot pistols 100 yards accurately, including a 1911. So I'm gonna have to disagree with you that I'm an average shooter lol.

Maybe slightly. We have shot Tisas and RIA on the channel and I can honestly say they are both great guns. Nothing wrong with a Tisas, 100% reliable in my experience and they are more affordable. But I like this Springfield and my RIA better than the entry model Tisas. However, the last Tisas we tested (different model), that was hands down my favorite. It has a few upgraded components over the entry model and it makes a difference. That gun specifically would be my choice in this price range. But yes, I suppose this Springfield is slightly better than the entry model Tisas, I can't put my finger on what it is- just feels better shooting it.
