No, if there is a problem and police acknowledge it, then the police can get sued if violence from the community is attributed to them admitting an issue. However, if they lie and deny it, then they won't get in trouble if someone attacks someone. This isn't political correctness - its a basic liability issue. Police don't have to be honest.
