The Spring team is preparing a new generation of the core framework for 2023 and beyond: Spring Framework 6 comes with a Java 17 and Jakarta EE 9 baseline and introduces major new themes, ranging from AOT/Native to Observability. if you would start a new project these months, would you go with reactive programming or better stay with imperative because of project Loom? Thank you.

I will start using project Loom once it has been out and used in real applications for some years. Spring reactor has been used already for some years so I stick to something that is used and has already some traction. Project Loom: I will believe it when I see it.

I would say if you are ready for reactive programming, go for that first. No one knows how long it takes to bring virtual thread to Spring.

Counterargument: most engineers are bad in reactive programming thinking and coding, sticking to imperative and switching to Loom later might not give you the best memory utilization now but once it's out there you'll be able to turn it on and get all the benefits.
