SPRINTER SACRE comes back to win the 2016 Queen Mother Champion Chase: 'The Horse of a lifetime'

Retirement rather than a resurgence looked more likely for Sprinter Sacre when heart problems and other health scares derailed him after a brilliant campaign back in 2013, including success in this same race.
But somehow trainer Nicky Henderson and his patient team nursed him back to form to recapture the two-mile chasing championship at the #CheltenhamFestival and send the racecourse into meltdown.
"It's been a long, long journey - those were two very, very grim years," Sprinter Sacre's trainer Nicky Henderson said afterwards.
"That was unbelievable. That was about dreams, wasn't it?"

I bet him that year (think I got 11/2) despite the problems he'd had I remember thinking if he's even 80% of the horse he was I just couldn't not bet him at those odds!! The best 2miler I've seen n the day b4 Altior destroyed a very high class field in The Supreme n we know what a career he went on 2 hav but even he wouldn't hav got near Sprinter Sacre! AN ABSOLUTE BEAST OF A HORSE.

@@ThomasDoubting5 Would he have won if he hadn’t of fallen, I don’t know how you can say with confidence that he would have. Jumping is the name of the game, he fell at the same stage of the race in 2017 as well. The both times that him and Don Cossack stayed up, Don Cossack absolutely annihilated Cue Card, in Aintree and Punchestown. Don Cossack in my opinion was simply a better horse and would have beaten Cue Card, it would have been interesting to see if Vautour had went to the gold cup how would he have done.
