Ooooo this is a great topic and no one ever talks about it. I used to work in the oilfields and they put these kind of boosters on all the company vehicles so we could have solid cell service even in the middle of nowhere. Super handy!

That's a totally rad use for these little guys! I didn't even consider it for 'normal' cars 😅

Hey Kaya, just a small suggestion next time you drill a hole in the van it's a good idea to touch up the paint on the edges so there is no exposed metal, this helps prevent rust later on. Love your channel! Cheers :)

I like your "double insurance" with the silicone.... I'm the same way - terrified of a leak! Good job, thanks :-)

Now I sound like a smart ass. Where you drilled the hole is very close. If you drill on the top of the "hump" on the roof, water is already running off it. It runs to the low spot where the hole is. You did good by getting a good seal. Just an FYI

For simplicity put the external antenna on the same side as the hole in roof .... Less movement of cord when moving in the wind

You could try an app called OPEN SIGNAL for the signal strength and tower locations. Might even be helpful beyond testing.

Really useful information! Thanks for the video. I wonder if WeBoost has a Yagi directional antenna, and if that would give more of a signal boost yet?
@peterm.eggers5206 жыл бұрын
There are a variety of directional antenna solutions that can increase your distance to line of sight, 5 miles and more are possible. Can be a hassle to setup and most directional are something you only want out when stationary, but can really open up many possibilities. Using a power saving desktop computer (CPU and motherboard with power saving firmware), replace all internal disk drives with SSDs (use USB external drives for backup and archiving only when needed), provides a platform that will easily outperform any portable computer per dollar and are easily upgraded and repaired. Install Linux with a VM host to boot any operating system in a few seconds, and a web caching program (i.e. Squid) to significantly cut down web browsing bandwidth, and you will have a video editing or other "heavy lifting" computer server. I say server because the best way to use it is with a Chromebook running remote terminal software. The Chromebook will do a fine job by itself online to browse/google the Internet, do email, do basic office work, but the using remote terminal program, it becomes the display and keyboard for your powerlifting personal server, which can provide much better security and functionality. Best of both worlds!

Has anyone one told you the U bolts are on wrong ? The round end should be against the bar. The Nuts should be against the clamps with the “teeth”. I hope this helps as it will stay in place better.
@XVanman6 жыл бұрын
The bracket on the antenna will be between the thing with the teeth and the Nuts. I hope you are understanding what I’m trying to say.
@KayaLindsay6 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for the advice. I actually installed it like that first, but the bar is too thin and the threads on the U bolts wouldn’t go down far enough to keep it secure. I switched the orientation so everything would be more secure!

19904X4 Vanman I don’t know Kaya personally but she strikes me as a confident secure soul that doesn’t have hang-ups with vulnerability.. don’t think she offends easily-- she seems to be adept at distinguishing when a person is sincere and/or being an ass. She’s open to suggestions. She is so down to earth and not pretentious..... It is rare to see a young woman that has and owns her OWN voice and doesn’t apologize for it... Just love her...!

Does the orientation of the external antennae matter? Last thing my box truck needs is more height... but a Unicorn nubbin would be cool. So do they say it has to be vertical?

I've only heard good things about this, and only from people who really need it and use it heavily. Seems like a good option. Not cheap though, huh.

Hey thanks for the video. Do you use it in conjunction with a hotspot from your service provider? Or do you just tether your computer to your phone?

I tether my computer to my phone and try not to exceed my high speed data usage!
@davep69776 жыл бұрын
at 2:27 you have the bracket on wrong. The saddle with the jagged points goes on the opposite side next to flat strip before the flat strip. so it's: "U" bolt- saddle w/ points-flat strip-washer-lock washer then nut. Just put the saddle on the left not on the right as you have it @2:27 Also, use the 12 volt power source and add a switch or unplug it from the amp. Otherwise your taking 12vdc to inverter to make 120vac then plugging in the wall wart to convert 120vac back down to 12 volt DC. Major waste of energy.
@jackcrompton45335 жыл бұрын
Dead right they need turning around to stop the antenna slipping round
@davep69775 жыл бұрын
After viewing a 2nd time, I have another comment. 1st- how many tubs and tile do you see out side? Not many so the silicone is probably is not UV stabilized. Also, a guaranteed way not to have a roof leak. Don't drill a hole in it, drill the hole in the side under the rain gutter were water doesn't sheet like the roof

use speedtest.net app, the best speedtest app by far. outside antenna should be further apart from the inside antenna, otherwise its going to boost itself and not the 4g you want to boost.

Avoid silicone that isn't made for that job, household bathroom on the van it will fail, trust me, you can use silicone but make sure it say that it is for caravans motorhomes and boats for anything on the outside. Just for the record, I still think your fucking awesome! (I choose my words very carefully!)
@bradkw42956 жыл бұрын
Actually it's a good idea to avoid Silicone entirely...nothing sticks to silicone, not even more silicone. So while it CAN seal joints fine, adding more later or doing a repair and you're screwed...take it from someone who's spent many hours with solvents , sanders and putty knives trying to get surfaces clean enough to apply something like 5200. It's a serious PITA that can be easily avoided.
