Ever wonder what sets sprinters and marathoners apart? Both are runners, but they excel at different events and have different training and physiology. One key difference is the type of muscle fibers they have and the way they train them. This video will look at these differences and give examples to help you understand the main distinctions. From the explosive power of sprinters to the endurance of marathoners, we will explore the science behind it all. Whether you're a runner looking to improve your performance or just curious about the sport, this video is a must-watch. So sit back, relax, and learn about the differences between sprinters and marathoners.

If you're not on either spectrum of being a great sprinter or being a great marathoner, would middle distance be your optimum choice? Events such as the 800, 1500, or mile seem to have a good mix of endurance and speed. Their bodies seem to be more muscular than marathoners but leaner than sprinters. Instead of running for seconds or hours, how about running for 2-4 minutes all out?

From what I have experienced idk bro because mile people are built skinny and slim to run very fast distance but from what I have seen it's those same people who skill in mile that are top 800 runners as well Cause I seen many dudes who are top 800 runners that run like sub 2 min but also run like 4:15 miles

@@nomaderic every human being can reach marathon WR pace, they just can't hold the pace. And sprinters born to sprinters, and marathoner born to be marathoners. Because you cant change your muscle fiber types with training.

According to studies, the average BMI of a world class sprinter is 23.7 Uth, N. (2005). Anthropometric comparison of world-class sprinters and normal populations. Journal of sports science & medicine, 4(4), 608. A lot smaller than what you said an example will be Andre De Grasse the Tokyo 200m gold, he is 178cm 70kg, he doesn't look like an 80s movie character at all

from what ive read, fast twitch fibers are for speed against a significant external load like a barbell, but is it also more effective for speed against very light load such as a punch in boxing? some boxers are stronger but also slower than other boxers.

Well, yes, kinda, but the added weight is relevant for sprinters too. The ideal body for a sprinter is average height, f***** ripped and powerful but still light... Power to weight ratio... If you are huge you need unbelievable power for sprinting, and size doesn't equal power, complicated shit, but there is a point where more muscle is trivial, youcan barely use it, you need the right "neuron wiring and everything... But yeah, bodybuilders can't run jack because they aren't fit, but weightlifters can't run much either...

That is a good 5k time. Anything over a minute starts to become more and more aerobic. 3 miles is around 95% aerobic so endurance is the primary challenge.

It depends how your body responds to training, nutrition, and rest. I used to lift a lot, but never got very big. However your power output is probably more important than volume Bruce Lee was very compact and extremely strong for his height and weight.

I would assume that they help up to a certain point, above which the added weight weight will outweigh (heheh) the benefits. "Zero muscles" is never gonna be fast.

There is new info out that shows that long distance runners tend to be very lean on the surface, but build up dangerous visceral fat; whereas sprinters tend to maintain low visceral fat. Visceral fat is the bad one! There are a few videos on KZbin by Sean OMara that show MRI cross sections of this. Anyway, I’ve started incorporating sprinting into my workout plan instead of running and longer types of steady state cardio. I’m 47 years old and don’t care about competing or how good I am it at. I just want the health benefits! Of course diet plays an important role too. I’m as close to zero carb as possible too.

Simple test like a high vertical jump indicates more fast Twitch. We all have both, but it is a matter of ratio and volume. Most sprints or jumpers will do much better on a 30 fly test or jumps, where slow Twitch dominant will naturally do better on endurance test.

Actually cross country runners have more of a flimsy-er body cuz the have a fast metabolism with not much weight weighing them down. While a sprinter has more of a bulky body building muscle for a faster speed rate than cross country runners. I (Ps.
