Britain is made up of an astonishing 80% farmland, with only 2% working in agriculture. However, many people are waiting to return to the land and that’s where Monty Don steps in. With over 40 years of farming experience, he’s helping the Bejin family create their dream farm. After being diagnosed with arthritis, Dick decided enough was enough. He and his wife, Pauline, moved from Holland to even, swapping his sedentary lifestyle for a more active one

This program is from 2009. I looked them up and the duvet business is thriving!Apparently the next day after the program aired they hade 1.300 emails!

What an OUTSTANDING episode! Monty did a brilliant job of connecting the Hotel Buyers with this couple at the beginning stages of their business development - that was a great gift! But, this couple is an EXCELLENT TEAM together! They are impressive! I’m positive they will continue to develop other very viable income opportunities, the the ones listed in all these comments; about offering others the opportunity to visit/educate, stay, work, exchange/trade services, etc. What a radical life change - these are BRAVE people! Best wishes to this family & all their ventures!!

It was a great episode. I was very impressed by the husband and wife willing to do almost anything. They really had a strong work ethic.

I literally laughed out loud in the beginning when they said they were switching to farming due to Dick's health. I cannot think of a more grueling occupation than farming. These folks have done an amazing job and I'm so happy for them!

Oh, I would absolutely love to stay on a farm like this for a night or two! A simple income for them would be B&B, for nature lovers.

Or - less work - camping. Bring your tent and there's the porta-potty (what do you call those in the UK?) and here's the firepit. Knock yourselves out and don't bother us.

Or for that matter, do a Tom Sawyer (painting the fence). People can come and pay to pet the lambs, gather eggs, milk a cow, slop the pigs, etc. Pay for the 'farm experience'. Schools could come and the kids could learn about bees or sheep or growing vegetables - and then go home and not interfere too much with their private life. They could get the visitors to do some of the work of spinning the wool, feeding the animals, making the honey and then pay for some wool or honey or eggs.

@@FigaroHey I wholeheartedly agree! For people who don't have access to such a beautiful location, a working farm stay would be ideal.

The retail price for the wool duvets 2009 was completely affordable. Can't get that equal value in US. Give the hotel industry the deal at 30% less with a contract that the hotel will advertise the company retail site and the duvets availability for purchase.

Those duvet prices are not out of line for a quality duvet selling in the United States. Corporate buyers are too focused on keeping expenses down, whereas individuals and boutique businesses selling to individuals will be more focused on quality.

Why wouldn't wool duvet's substitute substitute for down allergic people? I'm very allergic to down but miss the feel.

I found the constant drumming of the arthritis annoying and intrusive. I would have simply suggested the option to hire some hands alongside his instructions if needed. A fabulous family with a committed focus on success.

Yeah, because hiring people never cuts into your profit margin - or food bill or mortgage payment. And people who are willing to do hard farm labor - for years, as a career, at low pay - are so easy to find nowadays. And after all, the very real fact that he WILL become incapacitated at some point has nothing to do with their long-term plans, so hire somebody, and Monty can go home. And you won't be annoyed by hearing about someone else's painful medical condition.

A farm with animals is called a ranch.

It's so sad to see adults brutalizing children to think it's OK to murder animals and exploit their families. Very sad. All living beings want to live and love their own families. To hell with these people.

So why on earth watch a video on farming if you feel like that - try the real world for a change!
