You are a total legend young man!! Go Spencer!!! I really love your oboe playing. I took up the oboe myself at the grand age of 58, and after starting off with a rental oboe from our local music shop, last January, my husband bought me one of my very own!! I've got a Buffet Crampon BC4131 thumb plate oboe, and it really is absolutely gorgeous!! I don't make my own reeds as that is too time consuming for me, but it's absolutely fine as I can buy them online from Howarth's Store in London. I'm learning on medium soft Howarth Academy reeds, and they produce a lovely tone. My oboe journey has been very challenging, but it is absolutely wonderful at the same time!! So lovely to be able to play classical pieces now. Still loads to learn, but I have a really lovely teacher, and we work really well together. It sure is so wonderful to be following you in your musical studies, you are certainly inspiring me in my playing hun, so God bless you abundantly in all that you do. Thank you so much for sharing this fantastic video, and I look forward to seeing plenty more!! 🤩

In school my music teacher said that we have to write an essay about any instrument, I was inspired by you to write this **Oboe: History, Structure and Significance in Music** The oboe is one of the most important and recognizable instruments from the family of woodwind instruments. Recognized for its warm, penetrating tone, the oboe has a rich history and significant role in classical music, especially in the symphony orchestra. It is often used as a solo instrument, but its contribution to the orchestral sound is just as important. The oboe dates back to ancient times, and its development can be traced back to ancient instruments such as the shalmai and the zurna. During the Middle Ages, the shalmai was a popular wind instrument used at courts and during various festivities. However, the oboe in its modern form did not appear until the 17th century in France, where it was made by Jean Hotteterre and Michel Philidor. It was originally known as "hautbois" (which means "tall wood" in French), because of its high tone and the material it was made of. The oboe soon spread throughout European courts and became a favorite among composers of the time, such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Friedrich Händel. In the 18th century, the oboe became an integral part of orchestras and chamber ensembles, while its sound stood out for its richness and emotion. Its importance did not decline even in later musical periods - on the contrary, in the 19th and 20th centuries, the oboe became an indispensable instrument in symphonies, operas and ballets by composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Richard Strauss and Igor Stravinsky. The oboe is cylindrical in shape with a narrow end and is made of quality wood, most often African black wood (grenadilla), although modern models are sometimes made of plastic materials. Its length is about 65 centimeters, and it is recognizable by its double tone (tongue), which is made of bamboo or reed. The sound of the oboe is produced by the vibration of these double reeds, which the musician places in the mouth and uses breath and lip control to modulate the tone. The oboe is a chromatic instrument, which means it can play all the notes in the musical range, and its range is about two and a half octaves. Due to the specificity of its sound and its ability to produce very precise tones, the oboe is often used for the intonation of an entire orchestra. The oboe occupies a central place in orchestral music. In classical music, the oboe is often the soloist in symphonies, concerts and operas. Her ability to express a wide range of emotions, from sadness to joy, makes her the perfect instrument for creating a specific atmosphere and emotional charge in different works. The role of the oboe in the orchestra is also special in that it provides the reference tone for the tuning of all instruments before the start of the concert. This is due to its stability in intonation and a clear tone that easily breaks through the sound of the entire orchestra. Some of the most famous composers who wrote works for the oboe are Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who wrote the oboe concerto in C major, and Richard Strauss with his *Oboe Concerto*. Apart from classical music, the oboe is sometimes used in contemporary music genres, such as film and jazz music, where it brings a unique color of sound. if it sounds weird in English that's because this originally wasn't written in English, it was written in Serbian

It mostly just takes time playing on them to develop a feel and an ear for it. Some are stiff, or leaky. Some are too soft and close up when they get older. Some are springy, some are ducky. It is a combination of the cane, where the supports are carved, the thread height, the measurements between everything, and the age of the reed. Reeds are very different and it takes practice to deal with all of their quirks. Even if you aren't an oboe player, I bet you would be able to feel the differences if you played on a few, it's just harder to hear through a video.

So I am a sixth grade student and I am trying to learn oboe for my band class. SOS. It is either me or the whole rest of the band that is out if tune. This is my first year and my teacher is a brass guy, so he doesn't really know how to help me. My first reed ever was amazing. I had to retire it because I almost passed out in class because of the crack leaking air. I tried using my backup reed and was instantly horrified at the sound I was making. I tried getting another reed. When my band director asks me and my fellow oboe player plus the flutes it is very clear I am not in tune. I could reach high g easily and now it seems almost impossible plus my tone is a lot louder than with my original reed. Plz help.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😬 Plus love your vids💜💜💜💜💜
