One thing I appreciate about Raymond's characterization is that he is a criminal yes. He makes no apologies for what he is, there are no false sides with him. But he is a realist in the fact that he recognizes he can portray whatever he needs to be, to people. He makes them understand he can and will do horrible things to them if he deems it necessary. Therefore it's better to just speak to him, he gets what he wants simply by being present.

No, Reddington is True Neutral. He has no particular adherence to order or the idea of it, nor a revulsion of it; instead he uses it when it's useful to him, and undermines it when it isn't, so clearly Neutral on the order/chaos axis. As for the good/evil axis, he does what benefits himself and his family, and nothing more. If he were greedy, sadistic, or willing to kill innocents with nary a second thought, he could be neutral evil, but he is none of those things. And he's definitely not good, so he's neutral on the good/evil axis. True Neutral. Just like many mercenaries, mobsters with codes of honor, assassins who refuse to kill innocents, etc. etc.

The show got soo much better when they dropped the off the rails, all over the place needlessly convoluted arc about Liz' parentage. I agree: it became painful to watch. An FBI agent supporting her "mother", who has just has two FBI agents murdered, made no sense. In fact, it was total bollocks.
@NeilTruick3 ай бұрын
We needed to understand why Raymond specifically asked for Elizabeth. The parentage and uncovering the backstory is what separated this from a typical FBI informant drama. As much as we say we didn't need Elizabeth, we actually did need her until we became so invested in just watching Red be Red, we didn't care about Elizabeth. Let's be real: Once Elizabeth was gone, the focus for Red shifted to keeping the Task Force active, which was made the show a little one-dimensional. The last two years survived solely on the strength of Reddington, which was never intended to be (and really couldn't be) a long-term solution.
