I usually agree with Robert and have respect for people that sacrifice their living for their passion for business, but I don't think paying yourself 70,000 is something to get upset about. That's a reasonable amount to get by with.

Not at the stage of the business they are in financially. With paying six people a salary, the employees/owners are making more money than the business is which is not a sustainable strategy. I doubt their parents are doing much as well. This is a one product business and they are paying six people a salary. Sales don't justify that. I agree with Robert. I do the same.

They’ve knocked people before for not paying themselves but if they’re paying a team of 4-5 people $70,000 each about there’s where all the leftover money the sharks were asking about that was unaccounted for.

The business hasn't scaled because, in between two people they were using $140,000 for themselves when the average person doesn't make anywhere near 70k a year and can still support themselves if they were making hundreds of thousands or millions then It would be different... when I was just a teenager I sustained myself for an entire year paying rent, utilities and buying necessities and I only spent a little over $15,000

So basically number don't add up, THEY ARE PAYING THEMSELVES OUT OF BUSINESS PROFITS!!! They don't want to admit it, as in past many had received flak for it. Probably their parents are working for them and getting remuneration. No business would operate without payouts. But most entrepreneur never accept it, which is the biggest driving factor for them. This pitch made me feel like their growth started to stagnate and then they didn't want to invest their own money in case it went south. So take a publicity stunt, get words out if shark join in some initial sales or it's always easy to file for bankruptcy and give all equity to the investors to recover money and easily the elephant is out of the room. It sure felt like it. They were walking on eggshells regarding the profits because they didn't want to come clean actually where it went. Robert caught it and put it out on the table. The two in house worker are actually their parents. 70000x4=280000, and their profit was 100000, IP cost 100000. That comes out of a total of 480000. Very close to earlier calculation of mark and Kevin. 500K. That's what was up, they want someone else money, and effort to make them money. As the profit would increase they would increase their own payouts. They must be sitting on inventory that's why Lori offer was lucrative to them. Quick sales and liquidation. Mark and Kevin got their calculation right.

Makes no sense. The whole point of a business is to create revenue. Many businesses take time for that revenue to create actual profit. You reinvest said revenue into the business to grow it. Thus a better chance at creating higher profit. If you just want a paycheck, then go work for someone who did just what I said and now has the means to actually pay employees.

to preface: i don’t agree with robert’s reasoning. 70k is reasonable. so they pay themselves and their parents plus 2 employees each 70k that’s = 420k. perhaps this is where the “missing” cash is going.
@TheMattTrakker

yeah. duh. And it is unreasonable when you profited 100k last year and you're asking people to invest in your company. That's 420k off the top, every year, before they see a return (I'm guessing that's why Laurie made sure to get preferred stock).

Lori could have gotten way more than 10% of that business and it still would have been worth it for them.

1:18 Look at all the water spilling on the carpet. This is more messy than a bowl of water.

All of them knew the numbers didn't add up so they structured the deal so the profits wouldn't vanish again. They didn't want to call the kids out on tv though

Yepp. My friend d actually invented something very similar to this back in the 1990s called "paw bottle" and it did exactly this. It didn't look nearly as colorful or well designed as this but it still functioned the exact same.

Lori is all in…. because they got patents but they are absolutely terrible operators.

They’re paying themselves $150k a year together and only making $100k profit. 😆

They're only making 100k profit after everyone is paid. That's what profit is.

I'm still trying to figure how they got a patent when this product has been in the market FOR YEARS. Either they are knocking off a product or they have several knock offs.

Can someone please tell me how they got the patent on the system? It is essentially a demand valve or like a non return valve. What exactly is the patent for?

It's easy to see she's a crazy dog owner and probably knows people well that think they are parents. But you still have to get them to spend a lot of money on a water bottle they dont need. Even if they don't use a water bowl, just bring the bottle and pour it into a bowl and there's the same mess. Either way there will be water all over the floor.

I am not blown away by the idea at all but i think they will go on and make more products and be very successful. Lori is a great partner. She is getting hotter each episode too :). Mr.Wonderful would have been great as well.
