Spurs SHOULD be used to fine tune certain movements on the horse. The rider needs to reach farther on the horse back for certain cues. Not everything is a torcher device in the horse world 🙄🙄🙄

There’s no such thing as a ‘nice’ and ‘aggresive’ spur…both are disgusting bits of metal which stab a horse…how can anyone use spurs? They’re just horrible bits of metal which were invented to create pain☹️

Lauren T Depends how you use spurs! You can be harsh with your feet or soft with your feet. You can kick hard or kick very little. Some horses also respond better to spurs then just your feet in general, like my horse. He’s a stubborn/lazy horse and he works a lot better with spurs. I just use them as a “umph”. Not to harm him or hurt him.

They're intended to stimulate, not hurt. Alot of spurs are short and dull or have many points which spread out surface impact. Both of these are only meant to communicate with your horse where you would have trouble. It's longer and more precise than your heel so it gives them a more precise signal than just kicking them. Also, all ranch life is completely different than a dog or cat. You have to be a bit tougher with them because they don't listen to soft people. I've been riding a few years and ranch handing almost the same and can tell you this from experience

@@gerrycoleman7290 hes lazy. always been lazy. he’s an old western pleasure horse who’s retired from it many years ago. he’s more happier getting to actually move and groove, I commented that 2 years ago and yet you’d want to respond?? anyways, I’ve never used spurs with him before and he never wanted to move unless I was roughly kicking him with my feet and my feet only. so I had started with bumper spurs because I was genuinely concerned as to how he would react to actual spurs, he did good with bumper spurs for a bit but then it went back to the same old not responding to what was told. later on I moved into small dull spurs, and he it’s like he just moved like with the snap of your fingers. some horses need that push to move, just not aggressively pushed like how some people would abuse the use of spurs. i still use them till this day and he’s perfectly happy and never shown any signs of pain to me using them. im not the problem and necessarily neither is my horse. ive just only ever used my spurs as a small push to move forward, I’ve never and never will intend to harm him with spurs. can I ride without them? yes i can. will i? i can if I want to. it’s my horse and my decision, im the one who cares for him and owns him. so i know my horse more then you do. and no some horses don’t need spurs because all horses are DIFFERENT. some horses are super sensitive to the smallest kick and they can move just like that, but some horses are more stubborn and just need that push. all a spur is, it’s just a reach of the heel and used when simply needed to ask a horse to move forward or to pick up on a lead. so Gerry, I will continue using spurs. my horse is happy and so am i.

You have absolutely no experience handling horses or riding them. I'd be shocked to hear you've even been around one. Spurs are used so you can be more gentle. I speak from experience when I say that spurs allow a much more natural way of riding compared to having to heel back and kick them.

@@justme9359 once again, I don't know where your experience comes from, but if your horse fights you you need to fight back. It's is 500 pounds of pure muscle and if you don't make it think you are capable of riding it won't let you ride. If it starts to run backwards or buck you grab the night latch, pull the Rains and sturdy it. Otherwise you're off. Now tell me, have you worked with these animals before? How long have you? What breeds have you worked with? Have you worked with other ranch life? Are you even in any position to talk about this besides the little pedestal that you've placed yourself upon?

@@justme9359 they just want to please is probably the funniest thing I've ever heard. They're animals. They look out for themselves. Could you imagine trying to train a dog without telling him no? Or the same with a kid? Animals are inheritly opposed to being dominated and thus will fight you . That's why even broken ones will run from you if you enter their pens. Furthermore, there's a difference between breaking a horse and making it become dull. 98 percent of horses you see have been broken and that's why you can ride them. But there has not been a single horse I have seen that I would call dull. Hell, the one I ride with spurs gets jumpy outside of the arena every time were doing sorting. She can do perfect 360s and bobs her head up and down whenever she's with other horses. She is more vibrant and joyful than a toddler at Chuck E cheese. Don't bring your in researched bull shit here.
