I find Charles burns’ art is both grossly dark and intoxicatingly beautiful. I hope I can someday come close to his level of talent.

So glad I stumbled upon this. Charles Burns was a teacher of mine back at Washington University in the early 80s, we all enjoyed his class and I've taken so much of what I learned into my 40plus year career as an Art Director. Thanks for posting this....

With both guys there's almost this eastern aesthetic, zen like, where the lines / spaces are thickly black, as if to underline the fact that what you don't see is as important as what you do see. The not seen highlights the seen. Same thing with Ernie Chan's work- lots of black, think lines etc..

Charles Burns, Daniel Clowes, Chris Wares ..how strange why do all the great comic artists in that generation all look the same ?

Great talk although I think it was a mistake for the camera to zoom out towards the end there. The viewer doesn't want to see what the panel would look like if they were sitting at the back of the auditorium, we want to see them close up.
