Re-reading through Gilbert’s Love & Rockets stuff right now and I really love it. Beautiful, amazing work. And his cast of characters. The really amazing thing is that he’s totally willing to show you a character that everyone loves in the worst light. He truly understands how complicated people are and that the most interesting person can be a complete asshole, or an idiot, or a pervert, etc. at times. For example, the de facto audience stand-in character, Heraclio, after being dependable for so long, eventually becomes an alcoholic. And the result is heartbreaking. Also, since decades pass in the stories, beloved characters get old, possibly become disfigured, or become mad, or maybe die in a horrible or embarrassing way. He has absolutely no fear.

I once used a urinal next to Gilbert after a chat at CSUN and he used the low urinal! (He told me to tell the story with that detail!). Beto’s a cool cat and one of the great artist/creators! Adelante como Pedro Infante! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

3 months later... Yeah, it’s Sheer Mag. They’re this alternative rock group. Kinda punky, I guess. I haven’t really heard much of their music, so I can’t say if I like them or not...
