as much as it's something i'd like to do, I wouldn't. 1 too lazy, 2 know nothing about internal electronics, and 3 it's just less of a headache to buy from ebay then going and finding all these little parts. I have to say though I love these diy videos. bravo kipkay!

Totally awesome. Thanks for the tip on converting a motion detector/s pulse output so easily. Amazing how far technology has come so quickly. This is impossible with a VCR.

Second question the Dvr cam was it the Lighter DVR Hidden Camera Cam Camcorder USB Mini 2g. Here is was I found with the info that you gave on the video.

instead of connecting it to the alarm and having to use a reed relay and capacitor you could've connected it directly to the digital signals from the motion detector itself and thus getting already a digital signal, use a volt meter to measure what type of semi conductors you need and get a couple of J K flip flops IC's and an oscillator and you coudlve made a better switch to detect when there is motion and and made a few couple of bits timer from the J Ks or just buy a more expensive IC timer to time how long it would record before shutting the camera.

you could mount it back in the motion detector box and thats how you can hide it just make holes for the camera and mic and add a quick connect connector so you can still use the dvr in other stuff
