This only works with certain Apple headphone products. (The powerbeats and the airpods.) Of course its only within Bluetooth range. I have the Powerbeats 4 and it works like a CHARM with my IPhone 12 ProMax. I also use it with my Ipad Pro (2020) 12.9” and it works EVEN BETTER because the microphone in that particular ipad has a studio quality embedded mic meaning its strong enough to even hear whispers. There was a time I was suspicious about my ex so I put my bookbag in her car because me and her friends were about to go on a road trip. Little do she know, I enabled live listen and left my bag slightly unzipped. I told her that I needed to go talk to my brother on the porch before I left. The entire time me and my brother were listening to her whole conversation. She had cheated on my a rather sickening amount of times, planned to cheat on me during the road trip on a girls night out night and had said some utterly cruel shit about using me for attention and money. If you’re suspicious and you don’t like to go through phone or cant go through your partner’s phone, purchase some AirPods or powerbeats and wait til she gets on the phone, leave the room and listen. Lots of you will say if you’re suspicious then you dont need to be with that person, but sometimes you need proof because some people are just THAT slick that you can’t prove it through going through their phone or getting their friends to say something. You gotta catch them at the most vulnerable moment, when they least expect it.
