Spyderco aesthetics are definitely an acquired taste. Never bought one because I didn't like the look of them. But, now that I'm doing some research into a possible Spyderco purchase, I'm starting to like the look of them. They are built for functionality, not looks. I love the functionality, and love = beauty. So here I am, a Spyderco convert.

People say Spydercos look ugly and I bet they did look way different than the Case and Bucks that were around when they started to come on the scene but now looking at some of the knives out there, they don’t look too bad

This is exactly what happened to me haha. I thought they were remarkably ugly. But as I researched I saw that they are built really well and they have a stellar reputation for better heat treats than many competitors using the same steels. That reputation for quality and performance made them grow on me and now I own two, am getting a third, and own no other knife brands 😅

Depends I guess on lots of things but for me , it’s manix 2 all day , almost every other day because there’s a shaman and pm2 . I know a farmer though who loves his para 3 for around the farm , loves it .

I hate the PM2. It’s uncomfortable in my hand and so big. The manix 2 LW fits like a glove, I’ve never another knife that was so comfortable and just locked my hand in. But it’s huge and wide and I’m not a fan of the lock. I never broke it in but I wish I gave it time and let it break in. The G10 manix has never interested me due to the heavier weight. I like the G10 Para 3 but I absolutely love the LW model. With the wire clip, rounded FRN edges... it’s EDC perfection for me. Great video, I love the “battle to the death” matches 🙂

Para 3 G10 version is my daily edc blade. The Para 3 lightweight feels somewhat flimsy to me. Manix 2 lightweight for the win....

Love both,the texture on the Para 3 scales are outstanding & it carry’s better in my pocket. But as far as a better blade for actual use I’m going with the Manix 2 lightweight all day over the para 3 lightweight. For me it’s just a better blade.

They were both the same price on Amazon and I went with the Manix 2 LW because of all the positive reviews that I just wasn't seeing with the Para 3, and I couldn't help but notice the similarities between the Manix Ball Bearing Lock and the Benchmade mini Barrage (that I own) axis lock and how fidget friendly it is and had to see if it is all that the reviews are saying that is is ! should arrive in a few days and I just know I wont regret my purchase!

@@MrSabram07 It's a little larger than I expected, I mostly carry my Delica because it's the perfect size for me and actually bought a Spyderco Persistence that I like better than the Manix because it's close to the size of the Delica. The Manix is very nicely made and looks awesome if the size fits what you are looking for?

I bought a manix 2 LW last week, it came in CTS BD1N steel (from Amazon). For me the para3 LW is a much better knife, the compression lock is way better than the bearing lock, the action is better and it's easier to flick. The manix 2 is a serious pocket hog for how much edge you're getting, when closed it's wider and nearly as long as a pm2 or endura, yet has the same cutting edge as the much smaller Benchmade mini grip.

Waiting for the Sage 5 LW and FYI Spyderco is changing out the the BD1 blade to BD1N on the Manix 2 LW. Love my G10 Para 3 with Camo scales, the Lynch deep carry clip makes it almost a perfect EDC knife.

I had the Para 3 LW on order (for ever) and decided on the Manix 2 LW in Translucent Dusk Blue. It comes in with BD1N! This was back in March, love this blade.

@@77530jp Yep, BladeHQ. I looked up all the specs, even at Spyderco's web site and I was expecting, and ok with settling for BD1. BHQ is still showing it in BD1 today, so you might give em a call. Mine is clearly marked BD1N.

Among what I own Manix 2 G10 is my favorite but.... I love the para 3 for EDC as it's so light and easy to flip. So even though I prefer the Manix... I carry the para 3 LW more.

I got two para 3 lw's with really bad blade centering. Keep the second one after afew weeks of use noticed all the screws backed out considerably and were not lock tited at all from the factory. One fell out in my pocket. Honestly after handling the manix 2 the para 3 lw is kinda flimsy compared to it.

The blade geometry on the para 3 looks much more useful, especially with the angle of choke you can get with that highly recurved thumb choil. It seems you do not like that, but it's function over form for me. It's a fairly bellied blade that can practically be used like a wharncliffe blade for precision cuts, with a great amount of pressure and precision. I think I'll get one and have some fun with it

The compression lock is stronger than the ball bearing lock… seen it compared a few times in strength competition…. The manix is plain Jane… the para 3 has some character and it’s upper finger rest is better designed for heavy usage.

But I like boring old back-locks. LOL. Great review. Being a lefty, I’d give deployment to the Manix. So I guess the score would be closer. But for me it is more important where the clip can move to and the fit in the pocket. So I’d still lean toward the Para 3. Thanks.

I prefer the Manix2 all day long. But the Manix2 runs into the same problem I have will all my longer-than 3" knives - they are illegal in about half of the towns where I work and travel. I don't have the PM3 LW - just the normal S30V - but at the 3" mark, I can carry it anywhere.

For me, the Manix 2LW is absolutely awesome. But I find it a bit big in my jeanspocket, it's large enough to draw suspicious looks, and I think the C-lock is more of a plaything than the BB-lock. So I hate to say I kind of agree ... got to get me a Para 3LW 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️💸

I might get a para 3 lw sprint but not a fan of smaller blades. I already have a couple small knives. I have an older CS Voyager that the smallest one they made. That’s my go to lightweight also the Civivi Wyvern too

I Have both & never carry the Manix 2 LW simply because it's too WIDE in the pocket . I can Carry heavy knives, I can carry long or short knives. I don't mind tip up or Tip down carry but an extra wide knife just will not work for me so I'v never gotten the Manix 2. It's probably the widest knife profile on the market.

When it comes to the lw para 3 hands down. In standard, Manix 2. I like the blade size and shape of the Manix 2 over the Para 3 but hate the handle feel and the fact that it’s pinned on the lw.

My only gripe with the Para 3 light weight is the 1sided steal liner on the spine. The screw goes straight into the FRN. I understand it's not a hard use blade but it still bothers me.

The entire paramilitary series is butt ugly to me; the PM3 is a non-starter. On the other hand, I like the leaf blade on the Manix, and it’s super comfortable. There is no comparison, Manix all day long.

Aesthetics are subjective of course but I think they are both ugly as sin. Spyderco in general doesn't make pretty knives, the only beauty is how functional and ergonomic they are. (imo) That said, love my para3 lw and my manix 2 lw.

Fit and finish on both was eh. I had to knock down the edges with some 600grit sandpaper, just the mold overflow edge, would be easy to clean up at the factory but I am sure most don't care on a $100 knife but it drove me nuts!
