"Τέλος" here should translate to fee, as in we all have to pay our debt to Time and that is our death, our end (our τέλος). For further reading and relevant to Seikilos' epitaph I would highly recommend Christopher King's amazing book "Lament for Epirus".

Pericles Vasileiou because in order to sing a song you have to do it in the sound of the original language (or an approximation to it) and modern Greek is quite different in sounding than the (classical for sure) Ancient ancestor. For example, the meter of these lyrics is based on a distinction between long and short vowels and thus syllables, and the modern pronunciation does not reveal the real rhythm behind the speech, as the scientifically reconstructed would, or even the Erasmian also. And we know for sure that verse meter did play a role in composition back then.
