It doesn't have to have happened that way. AGT and other shows cut the show so that it is interesting to watch. The audience scenes are meant to act as though the performance is laughable so the increase in difficulty of the tricks shows a bigger contrast. But the audience scenes could've happened any time during the whole show that day.
