How can we manually failover to mirrored instance and also how can we remove the database mirroring.

Thank you for appreciation. You can get Win Server as well as Sql Server s/w on Microsoft site itself. To create virtual machine - you can use any virtualization software.

if principal goes down.. ideally services should move to other node automatically ...

@@saurabhwaghmare393 if there is no failover - and main instance goes down.. you can't access your server \ database. Mirroring node will be in recovery state, so you can't access that either.
