I spent money on this game fully knowing that the project could very well fail. I work in software engineering myself and I know how much time some things take to get right. And yes, that includes taking wrong turns or hitting dead ends along the way. This happens in ALL sorts of engineering. Especially if your ambition as high as this project's is and are trying to do things that haven't been done before. I contributed in the hope that at the very least this project will deliver (an example of) new gaming tech that pushes the boundaries forward. That alone would be enough of a reward to me.

@@Sparkk0 From an architectural point of view it is all very similar to how Enterprise level services are set up where it is critical for a service to be available and none of the transactions are lost even under heavy load and outages. What is impressive though that they manage without the response time tanking (causing noticable lag voor players). In aforementioned enterprise systems you often have 'eventual consistency', this means that thing may be 'out of wack' but there is a guarantee that everything is aligned in the end. I have seen video's where people pointed out that the location of some objects and their authority colours were not matching in the demo. I think that's an example of such a situation, but that apparently doesn't stop de game from making sense. Nice work on their part.

The reality is that most people who hate this game are almost always divided into 2 groups. People who KNOW NOTHING about it, and just repeat random things like that it's a scam because of the meme. And immature people who spent 5K and are angry, because of instead of taking this as a risky investment where they could very well lose everything, it's just taking longer than they'd like. And that makes them angrier than simply seeing it all fail.
@michaelgiertz-rath7994
@michaelgiertz-rath7994 6 ай бұрын
@@raul_ariel Kinda concur on that. I'm holding the line for 10 years now. Also still keep spending from time to time. I'm happy to see how things come together with that trailer - it's great. But of course, I would have loved to get my hands earlier on SQ42. Then again, I want a perfect Space Opera and right now only Chris Roberts and CIG is willing to deliver, so an extra year won't hurn if it means a difference between a broken mess (your standard AAA title these days) and, well, a polished one. It's a pretty high standard here no one is willing to invest money in. People are so impatient. I wonder what they expected when they've put some money in a crowdfunding project - didn't they read the not-so fineprint? The game is in development and will take some time, like any other project does too. It's not even one of the longest running projects (Starcraft 2 took longer, for instance). It's also not the most expensive game development project (600M vs allegedly 2B for GTA VI) - and most of the money is spend on development. Only about 10% are used for marketing, which also includes that Citizen Con each year. Usually, about 50% of your budget is spend on marketing, sometimes it's even more. Most AAA titles these days are basically made on a budget due massive marketing costs and it backfires every single time. So, yeah, you're right. Either some people don't know jack and simply keep retelling what they've heard from someone else, or they're those former supporters that at some point gave up on that project. Which, to be honest, is understandable. Not everyone is happy with the course CR has set. And it's not easy to get money back (but not impossible). Then again I wonder what entitles people to get back money from a crowdfunding project? This one isn't dead, it didn't fail. Crowdfunding projects can fail and sometimes much more money is burned. So if someone is not happy with the project, it's fine, pull out. Or give it a break. Money back - well. Try it. But that hate is unneccessary. Game development is rough. We're privilegued to see it first hand, warts and all. There's also a third group. So called "experts". They know enough about the project to make up their mind but aren't actual backers. All their knowledge they have can be accessed via forums and videos. They then tend to analyze what they've got and, for some reason, get to the conclusion it's "impossible" to make such game. Some call it "scam". Others call it "vapor ware". And another group may tell: "yeah, there's that alpha you can play, but they'll never release a final game as they keep earning money with half-baked stuff". And they all are actually NOT WRONG YET - as the project still can fail like other promising crowdfunding projects. Just saying. I'm holding that line for years now. I won't give up now.

I've started backing the game in late 2013. I have been a long time fan of the Wing Commander series, and the Freelancers. And up to this day I have around 4k in the game. I had so much fun during those past years, depending on the current patch being not too buggy. But what they shown at the CitCon was fantastic. The server meshing demo was brilliant. And with SQ42 being feature complete, it's more man power for the rest of the project. Remember, this is basically 2 games in one. SQ42 being the single player option (roughtly 8/10 years before the time in the PU), and Star Citizen the MMO.

Another great reaction! This game looks amazing. I can't wait to play it! And I don't get people dictating how other adults should spend their own money. This isn't Star Citizen, the game is just $45 (there's no DLC). Back in the day, I got both games for $20. Yes, it's taken very long but it's finally feature complete! No release date but we've heard they're targeting Q4 2024 (but it's CIG so delays will probably happen). People bring up the long development time. Starfield took 8 years from an established studio and they still couldn't make a game with no load screens (and still takes an army of modders to fix all its issues). CIG started out with 4 people. It's had to build up their team up to 1,300 people. They had no publishers, they had to fund both games themselves. No game engine could do what they wanted so they had to develop the tech. And they're making two AAA games. But people will still jump on the hate train and call it a scam despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. It's ignorance. They can't even tell the difference between the separate single player and multiplayer game.

Just some advice for those who want to give Star Citizen a try, the learning curve is nearly vertical. The number of keyboard commands are at a sim level so be forewarned. But they have a section called Arena Commander, and inside that single player freeflight. It is very helpful for learning to fly your ship and that is a big part of game play flying to places - no fast travel instant jumps.
@FindtheShrooms
@FindtheShrooms 7 ай бұрын
Learning all the different commands really isn't that bad at all. Within a few hours most people will have everything they need figured out. Anyone that is serious about playing the game will be fine. If people are really nervous about it, just wait for a free fly week. One should be coming up sometime in November. That will give people a week or two to see if they like it.

CoD players are in for 70 dollars base game, 80 dollars for Console online services, 30 dollars for battlepass = 180 dollars just to play a game they may only get 5 hours of campaign and maybe off-on enjoyment of 60-70 hours until SBMM kicks their teeth in. Just to give you a bit of star citizen lore where the SQ42 took place within the Star Citizen universe ( since its the single player story driven campaign), The first scene we see with some F7A hornets fighter ship scouting around Vega system and the UEE 2nd navy fleet is really not cutscene but in game footage ( using their very own star engine). That fleet was fighting the large Vanduul clan fleet, which is the alien race you see at the end of this video ( those 3 tall alien creatures with spear looking guns), they are the Vanduul, one of the hostile race that is in war with UEE ( United Earth Empire)

Pretty level headed comments at the end there bud. I'm in for about $2700 (Over several years). Been part of the Star Citizen community since before the Kickstarter - as I've been a huge Wing Commander fan since I was a kid. It's been a wait for sure - but to be frank - The game will be ready when it's ready. I have friends who spend far more than $2700 dollars on alcohol in less than a year's time. Seeing as I don't drink, I just consider it to be beer money that I didn't spend on beer. That said, having been around for over 10 years, I've witnessed Star Citizen start from nothing and slowly (very slowly) begin to resemble a real game. This update on Squadron 42 was exactly what I was looking for with this years CitizenCon as Squadron 42 was a big reason why I backed in the first place. Star Citizen will be great fun for a long while I imagine, but I really want that cinematic Wing Commander experience in the modern age. We'll likely never see another Wing Commander (As Chris Roberts doesn't own the IP and he was the OG behind it to begin with.) Squadron 42 is the Spiritual Successor to it. And it looks more and more promising it'll live up to the lineage that precedes it.

Is it really so wrong that there is a studio trying to actually create a next-gen game (whatever ends up happening) that the people paying for it want? Many of us have thousands of dollars in the game at this point, including myself. Why? Because Star Citizen is the game that we really want and LITERALLY NO ONE ELSE IS EVEN TRYING. It's been amazing to see how far people will go to avoid learning about the project in any way whatsoever just so they can keep calling it a scam, not realizing that the vast majority of demo videos they see are actually depicting gameplay available in the game TODAY.

What a lot of people don't understand, to buy ships is not to simply "buy" a ship you want, it is a direct way of supporting the development of the game :P People who bought into it without thinking about what they were buying into and then get mad, is silly people! Besides, people get mad at Star Citizen when GTA6 has taken just as long currently to be in development if not even longer and people don't seem to get mad at Rockstar and call that a "scam" :P In this time, besides creating a new game of incredible scope, CIG has also been developing an insane new state of the art engine and new tech which has not been done before in the way that they are doing it, because all the big Triple A studios are too afraid to do it and also don't want to spend money on progressing the development of new tech as it cost money to make, in their eyes, why make something new when what they've been using for ages can just be upgraded a little here and there, it's like patching up a hole in the space station with duct-tape :P Look at Bethesdas 20+ year old Creation Engine, it is honestly not very good any longer and hasn't been for ages now, it can't keep up with something like Unreal Engine.. I laugh when people call SC a Scam and just shake my head at their ignorance when they then like something like Starfield that runs on an outdated engine and does not complain about GTA6 taking the same time to be developed as SC.. Ridiculous!

The lead character is so scared to mess up he addresses her rank and not her gender. So Sir is correct!! If they talked many times he would be more relaxed and could say Maam. I backed this game and Held the Line since 2016 and tried out the Online version to feel what it would be like. In 2017, the Online version took a major shift, where a seamless transition from space to land increased the scope of both games. I then knew it would take about 10 years to develop, so I was fully expecting 2027 but estimated 2025. For some reason, all you streamers keep saying, "You can't hold up a spaceship with guns," the spaceship they rolled up in is no match for the one they came out of. So that single-seater would be blown to bits, so they basically go out to negotiate. Henry Caville is in this.

SQ42 is in a way a beta for Star Citizen. Granted, without the need for network consideration, but the visuals, effects, NPCs, etc. are arguably more important as SQ42 needs to tell a story under its own power rather than relying on players to generate stories. If they all work for SQ42, then Star Citizen will have much less to worry about outside of network perforamnce.

It took 28 ships for me to realize I need to sell 14 immediately. I'm still stuck with 14 that I can't sell, but I'm OK with that. It's coming up on 12 years of development and it's still just a fancy, barely playable tech demo. We're not paying for a game, but the development of it. We may never see the game finished. Its looked that good for years just janky framerate, This sort of stuff isn't new to us older backers. your missing Henry cavill and craig fairbrass in that video. Also muppets saying the money went on the stars, Chris roberts is friends with a lot of them as they were in wing commander and Chris roberts went into movies after he left freelancer and while it would of been expensive it would have only been a fraction of the total budget! And most of the performance issues are synce issues server side. And Feature complete means that all content is in the game and they could release it as it is, but if they did it would be a buggy mess.

what hardware lol, you obviously never even play and try SC, you still can play in medium spec PC, mine is not high end spec but the game is playable, just make sure you run it on SSD and with enough RAM, like 32 gb is the sweet spot for me after upgrading it from 16GB of ram.
@elfwyn8707
@elfwyn8707 7 ай бұрын
@@rio20d 32 gb is on the save side. In Star Citizen there are still some really unoptimized parts and memory leaks can occur. I think that a "good" CPU (in the 200-300 range) will do very well to drive the game. What GPU is needed only depends on which resollution and which detail level is selected. Lower End Cards always struggle with 4K in all games, not just Star Citizen.

Its a highly curated video that CIG are passing off as gameplay, they've been doing this smoke and mirrors dance for over a decade and the rubes fall for it every single time. Its only a game once someone, ANYONE ever gets to actually play it. "Its feature complete! But first we have do this this and this oh and this! It'll only be a year or two! (ad nauseam) In the meantime buy our new ships/jpegs! Limited quantities! They'll be in-game we promise!" again ad nauseam.
