Squadron Engineering Officer For The Flying Fortress

Paul Kovitz was raised in New York. In 1942 he volunteered for the Army Air Corps as a buck private. His talents were soon recognized and after a series of promotions he ended up as a 2nd Lieutenant on a B17 airbase in England. During his interview, Kovitz talked about what life was like in wartime England for 2.5 years and his duties as a Squadron Engineering Officer servicing B17 bombers. He married a local English woman while stationed in England. They were married 71 years until his death in 2015 at age 93.

It really got to me the way he said "Thank God for Harry Truman "" For these men there was no question but that the decision to use the bomb was morally justified .Thank you, Sir for keeping those planes in the air.

I live near Framlingham and I love to hear these stories and the old folk still talk about the time the Americans were here they did a fantastic job . Great videos.

I have watched a few of these videos and really enjoyed hearing the experiences of the service personnel. But what I find impressive is the skill of the interviewer to frame the questions in such a way as to draw out the memories from these remarkable heroes. Thank you.

I really enjoy these videos; my grandfather was too old to enlist at the time so he went to work for Boeing in Wichita, KS and built wings and horizontal stabilizers for B-17's and B-29's. He is long passed away now; but he was always proud of the fact that his wings were carrying guys that would eventually help win the war. I still have incredibly vivid memories of the work and life stories he told me and my sister which is now a really long time ago.
