Squadron Marching: Basics

This video will help to understand the basics of squadron marching procedures. Topics include formation etiquette, reporting accountability, commanding, and preparing to march.
ATTENTION: The procedures shown in this video are meant to directly mirror the approach taken for squadron marching within the AFROTC community and Field Training.
One common point of confusion is whether the squadron commander will be 9 or 12 paces from the flight when falling in. However, in reality, there will be many situations that preclude you from taking place at either of these distances in certain settings.

Jon Gerdes since they’re in the grass, they say “rotate 90 degrees to the right” instead of “right face”. A rotation is the silly looking pitter patter steps.

@@amiah.a curious, where is this command found in AFMAN 36-2203? I'm trying to search it and the word "rotate" doesn't appear anywhere in the manual.

@@lieutenantmatt4353 It's a det-ism, meaning their detachment does this, but it is not the standard Air Force-wide. We had cadets who learned this way and tried to call this command while being evaluated at their Field Training experience, however, they were corrected by their Flight Training Officer Cadre. The cadets should know to rotate automatically when they are on grass and hear a facing movement command.

@@MajinWally At Det 075 we drilled on grass and we’re able to maintain regulation. No excuses. If the concern was destroying the grass on pivot movements there are other alternative movements that are closer to regulation such as those moments authorized for honor guard. The way the flight commander also ran to flanking position was sloppy. Although this is not a drill competition I’d expect the movements did not diverge so far away from regulation esp on the facing movements.

The ABOUT TURN is more of an unprofessional shuffle than a drill movement. You'd never find anything like it in the British Army.
