I've been looking everywhere for a video showing someone actually timing a twine disc. Great video and explanation of what you're doing.

Regarding your round baler problem -- you need to weld 3/16” rods to the stripper roll; thats the top sledge roll right under the belts. It’s too smooth to catch the hay and ‘strip’ it off the belts. The other thing is to do as your dad did at 9:28 and cram the hay in that baler like you want to plug the pickup. Slow the tractor engine down at core start also. Take a look at the stripper roll the BR7000 series balers use, they are a formed rib roll. You can have basically the same thing by welding 3/16 rod to yours. Check the scraper to billhook contact on that bad knotter on your square baler. As others said, the scraper needs to rub slightly. And keep the twine knife literal razor sharp. If the knife is dull, it tightens the knot on the bill hook and makes it too hard for the scraper to pull off. I don’t believe for a second its a twine quality problem.

I was missing one out of every 4 bales on a NH 565 where the knots were hanging on the billhook last week. Loosening the billhook cam spring nut about 1/8 of a turn seemed to fix the problem.

Loosening the billhook made no difference. Be sure and stick around for the next video when I’ll dig into it a little bit and see where the wear is on it. Thanks for watching and for the comment.

I tried that also and made no difference for me either

Interesting issue there. My experience over the yrs I'd say it's hammer time, hammer adjustment that is, the knife arm isn't rubbing the bottom of the bill hook hard enough to rub the knot off the bill hook, so you smack the arm in the right spot to make it rub a little harder. I'm sure you know that. I'm curious how many different things can actually cause that. I run a 273 and just had that same issue . started when I got into the straw never missed a bale in hay. Knot was hanging up on bill hook so I gave it the hammer treatment, but I noticed the arm seemed to rub enough anyway, so got back at it and same thing issue continues and only on the one side, turns out I was trying to pack a little to much straw in a bale, after I backed the tension off enough it didn't miss any more. Still got me scratching my head why only one side though.

With the square baler missing knots, have you checked the twine is running from the roll to the needle in exactly the right way? Missing one little detail in this can cause the knots to miss periodically.

Hope you fixed up your baler issue's. You all have a great evening.

My experience has been when it switches twine balls sometimes the connector knot will end up in the knotter and it will stick on the bill hook and then the next time it knots it will wrap more and mess up the knife arm tension, so just whacking the knife arm has always fixed the problem for me, also my 570 has a ton of bales on it and maybe misses 2 out of 1000 bales, but I do tend to run it at lower rpm’s 450 or so, but it doesn’t miss at 540 rpm, and when I say it has a ton of bales on it, the previous owner custom baled 60k a year and it is a 1994 model, and the knotters are all original, needless to say they are wore out

My uncle says cheap hard twine, he has a couple of rolls of the cheap twine sitting for 20 years, won't use it, we can still buy sisal twine here in the Ireland, I tried cutting the new cheap twine with a brand new Stanley blade took three passes, so will try sisal twine next year. We have an international baler, they say they run better on sisal twine. N.B just a thought the sisal twine is slightly thicker so may help with worn disc's as it may grip better.

Wear is certainly sneaky. Check if the knife arm is rubbing against the rods that push the twine arms. When the knife arm gets worn and develops axial play, it might start traveling lower hitting the tucker finger actuators. The other cause of knots hanging from the billhook is excessive tension caused by grooves in the needles and those insulator looking things. Rotate the insulators and braze the needle.

Like Shaun C said. Make sure the wiper arm makes light contact with the bill hook. Otherwise your knots will get hung up like you describe. To adjust rotate the knotter up and strike with a mallet to get the wiper arm closer to the billhook. Also make sure your twine does not criss cross in the box.

Are the haydogs and the hay dog springs ok they can give you trouble
@danielfennig85922 жыл бұрын
They wouldn’t ever cause knots to hang
@thebalerman2 жыл бұрын
Hay dogs and springs are in good shape. They shouldn’t cause this. I determined it’s wear on the knotters. Specifically the twine disc drive pinion. Stay tuned for a follow up video.

Try loosening the the tension on the right hand billhook. But only loosen one flat of the adjustment nut at a time, then bale some more
