They built squares through 1991 and that crew cab was one of the last of it's kind. It was a 1991 built on July 15 of 91. Totally optionless fleet truck. Was a TBI 350 with a 4L80e originally though and that's a rarer thing as the 4L80e was only in the squares in 1991 as that's the year that transmission debuted. Otherwise it was silver with dark cognac interior and had 4.10 gears. That's about it!

Correct! They built one ton squarebodies until 91 just like the Blazers and Suburbans.

That last truck, the "84" is a Frankenstein truck. Front clip is 89-91 SUV and Crew Cab, has the little quad headlights like the 88-89 OBS trucks. Instrument cluster trim is the burl wood, fake curly maple, that was mid to late 70s( my dad's 75 Sierra Classic had one, I remember it well! The sheet metal is a piece of this and a piece of that, so is the inside. The brown and tan truck with the gold/yellow stripe in the side trim, that's a '77. The only year the trim had that color, for the 50th anniversary of GM. All other years, 73-76, and 78-80, the stripe is black. That yellow is impossible to properly color match, we had a '77 Burb and I never could find a color that looks right. It's kind of a mustard yellow....

@googleusergp4 жыл бұрын
Whoa Nelley, it's hip to be square and there's a lot to compare. The first one is a 1991 model. We got the VIN, we win. We got the SPID, I'm glad we did. Here we go: 1 for US made, G for General Motors, C for Chevrolet Truck, E for 6,001 to 7,000 # GVWR with hydraulic brakes, R for 4x4 (R Series which was the later "square" from 1987 to 1991), 1 for 1/2 ton, 6 for Suburban body style, K for 350 V8 with TBI, 3 is a check digit, M for the 1991 model year, F for Flint, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The original color was #27 Light French Blue. It was a THM700R4 transmission (overdrive) as shown by MD8 on the SPID. Those TI calculators last forever. I have two TI-35 from my undergraduate college years and i used them through grad school and beyond. Jim Enos (a used car dealer) is still around at 2801 E Belknap St, Fort Worth, TX 76111. Electronic Spark Control was in the early to mid '80s and it was a primitive form of "CCC" (Computer Command Control). My '80 Trans Am Turbo has it. There's a spark controller in the console. Gotta call out those VINs, tough to read sideways. On the Cheyenne 1973(??) I see C for Chevrolet, C for 4x2, L for 350 V8 with four barrel, and possibly this is a "4" or a heavy half. Not sure about the year because I can't read the tag. Can't brag if we don't see the tag. Can't win without the VIN. The Google Man is going to be mad. LOL. The white one, we got that VIN, again we win. That is from the top, 1GC for US made Chevrolet Truck, G for 8,001 to 9,000# GVWR rating, with hydraulic brakes, R for 4x2 (again an R series, the V series was the 4WD from 1987 to 1991), 3 for 1 ton rating, 3 for crew cab, K for 350 V8 with TBI, 4 is a check digit, M for the 1991 model year, F for Fint, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. Couldn't get the blue one with the orange door, the plate is too hard to read with the angle of your phone and not being able to focus on it. Let's go up front. 1st white one is C for Chevrolet, C again for 4x2, S for 454 V8 with four barrel, 2 for 3/4 ton rating, 6 for Suburban body style, 8 for 1978 model year, S for St. Louis, MO assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The stake truck is 1GD (I think it's a D) for incomplete GMC truck, H for 9,001 to 10,000 GVWR with hydraulic brakes, R for 4x2, 3 for 1 ton rating, 4 for two door cab, K for 350 V8 with TBI, then a check digit which I cannot read, then J for the 1988 model year, then J again for Janesville, WI assembly, and the rest is the production sequence. Paint code of 8265 is called Tan for the exterior paint which is what is now. The second to last one was sold at Queen City Chevrolet, and they are still in business at 620 Houston St Wills Point, TX 75169. The last one was sold at Steakley Chevrolet which was located at 6411 E Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX 75231. They are out of business. Yes, the last one was a hodge-podge of parts as that is a later "R and V" series grille with the four mini quad lamps. The steering wheel is also from a later truck as are the seats. You can tell that one has had a hard life.

The electronic spark control was only on the 305(5.0) 4 barrel carb. trucks. '81-84 I think? Our 81 pickup had a 305 2 barrel and our 84 Burb had a 350 4 barrel.

When these “square” body trucks first came out n 1973 we just shook our heads at what junk GM was producing. We couldn’t get over all the sheet metal screws and thin sheet metal that’s was being used for the body.
@100texan24 жыл бұрын
Yeah, overpriced tin cans. Of course today’s young guys think these trucks are the greatest. If they only knew the dangers of these side saddled mounted fuel tanks set outside the frame. GM has had a lot of lawsuits over the years with the square body trucks fuel tank location when people are hit on the side and the truck bursts into flames burning up the passengers. The lawyers nailed GM when asked why they changed the location of the fuel tank outside the frame rails when as far back as the 1930’s GM advertisement touted that their fuel tanks were mounted between the frame rails for safety reasons.

Wowzers. There seems to be more squarebodies than Fords lol! The hodgepodge shortbed seems way too overpriced tbh The best pick of the bunch could be the matte black shortbody that runs/drives, the brown 77 with the cool camper, and the stepside longbed. I remember some of these like the el Camino and the green Ford with the camper being there for quite a while now. Yes the crew cab square body truck was built through 1991, just like the Blazer, Jimmy and Suburban. 1992 started the new generation trucks on these, the GMT 400 series, like the pickups that came out in mid '87 as 1988 models.
