Square Neck Baby Romper Cutting and Stitching | DIY Baby Belted Romper Cutting and Stitching
“Hi everyone! Welcome back to my channel. Today, I’m super excited to show you how to make an adorable square neck baby romper with a cute little belt. This is a perfect project for beginners and a great addition to your baby’s wardrobe. So, let’s get started!”
Materials Needed:
1. Fabric (Cotton or any soft fabric) - 1 yard
2. Matching thread
3. Scissors
4. Measuring tape
5. Sewing machine
6. Pins
7. Fabric chalk or marker
8. Elastic (for the waist)
9. Paper for pattern drafting
Step 1: Drafting the Pattern
“First, we need to draft our pattern. We’ll be drafting a basic baby romper pattern with a square neckline. For this, you’ll need the following measurements:”
• Chest circumference
• Waist circumference
• Hip circumference
• Romper length (from shoulder to desired length)
• Armhole depth
• Shoulder width
“Draw the front and back bodice on your pattern paper. For the square neck, ensure the neckline is the same width for both front and back. Add seam allowances (1/2 inch) around all edges. Don’t forget to add extra length for the crotch area to ensure a comfortable fit.”
Step 2: Cutting the Fabric
“Place your pattern pieces on the fabric, pin them down, and carefully cut around the pattern. You should have the following pieces:”
• Front bodice
• Back bodice
• Two sleeves
• Two leg pieces
• Waistband for the belt
Step 3: Stitching the Bodice
“Start by stitching the shoulder seams of the front and back bodice pieces together. Use a straight stitch and then finish the edges with a zigzag stitch or a serger to prevent fraying.”
Step 4: Adding the Sleeves
“Next, attach the sleeves to the armholes. Pin the sleeves to the bodice right sides together, ensuring the edges match up perfectly. Sew along the pinned edge and finish the seams.”
Step 5: Sewing the Side Seams
“With the sleeves attached, sew the side seams of the romper. Start from the end of the sleeves down to the armpit and then continue down the side of the romper. Finish the seams.”
Step 6: Preparing the Bottom Part
“Take the leg pieces and sew the inner leg seams. Then, sew the crotch seam by aligning the front and back pieces together and stitching along the curve. Make sure to leave space for the snap buttons or elastic closure at the bottom for easy diaper changes.”
Step 7: Attaching the Bodice to the Bottom
“Pin the bodice to the bottom part of the romper, right sides together, and sew around the waistline. This will start to take the shape of the romper.”
Step 8: Adding Elastic to the Waist
“Measure your baby’s waist and cut a piece of elastic to that length. Attach the elastic to the inside of the waist seam, stretching it slightly as you sew to ensure it gathers nicely.”
Step 9: Creating the Belt
“Cut a long strip of fabric for the belt, about 2-3 inches wide and long enough to wrap around the waist with some extra for tying a bow. Fold it in half lengthwise, sew along the edge, and turn it right side out. Press it flat with an iron.”
Step 10: Hemming and Finishing Touches
“Finish by hemming the bottom edges of the romper and the sleeves. Press all your seams flat. Attach any snaps or buttons for the crotch closure.”
“And there you have it! Your adorable square neck baby romper with a belted waist is all done. It’s perfect for your little one and makes a wonderful handmade gift too.
