🌸 PROGRAM NOTES 🌸
'square one' is a challenging marimba solo that showcases a performer’s virtuosity and endurance. The piece is built upon a singular rhythmic pattern; this opens the piece and reoccurs throughout the duration of the work in various forms, as if the performer and the audience are constantly being knocked back to square one.

The thing that surprises me the most about this piece is that it's even possible... It feels like I'm pushing the limits of what I'm able play by learning Moon Chasers by Mark Ford, and seeing this beast of a piece not only being played but performed?? Insane stuff, makes me wonder what I'll be able to do in the future.

Moon Chasers is beautiful! If you want to see more limits pushed, Niflheim(Csaba Zoltan) and Etude in E Minor(Casey Cangelosi) are pretty crazy in my opinion. I am currently practicing Luminosity(Tomasz Golinski), which is awesome and pretty similar to this one in a few ways.

Thank you for your music man, this piece is among the most beautiful pieces that I know of on marimba, and even in general. I bought the sheet music about half a year ago despite only owning a 4,3 octave marimba. I try playing what pieces I can on it but it's a struggle, I hope I can someday afford my own 5 octave so I can finally play this masterpiece of a piece. Thank you!
