This is brilliant. Not that I understand why the divisors are added and incremented in the way described, but it works. I tried working out the square root of 2 and the steps explained here are just wonderful. Presently teaching my daughter square roots and got stock on how to breakdown the imperfect squares using long division method (simple factorisation no longer works). I even applied this to decimals and it works brilliantly - you just need to ensure you treat the integer and decimal parts differently when grouping in twos. In fact I pushed myself by attempting to solve the square root of 32.6 using this method. I got up to the 7th decimal after which I lost the will to live as the numbers were getting larger and larger. Maths is such a universal language that I don't have to understand the language used by the tutor, but still able to follow her explanations. The few English words coupled with the excellent logical steps applied was all that was required. Thanks much Mandakini - best 14 minute video I have watched. I can now confidently boast to my daughter that I have always known how to do this since I was 10 years 😁
