I think wide stance already prime you for a split step since a narrow stance would consume more time to open up the stance. With a wide stance, you simply need to hop upwards instead of sideways and upwards.

It is the working against the outside of your foot that gives the drive so hopping up then has to change the force from downward to outward, keeping feet low but outward direction braces for the expected force on your foot and ankle and it is extremely quick if you do not jump high but keep your feet as low as possible at all times.

Thanks for the insightful video. When I'm watching at the opponent, should I watch the ball all the way from the opponent's racket to the wall Or just focus on the front wall once I see the opponent hit the ball. 🤔

Watch your opponents body before they hit to read where they are going to hit it then watch the ball all the way to the front wall and then to your hit.
