I think that all you people who go on saying that these players have to work on their pride and controlling their emotions are stupid. They play squash for a living, they have every right to get frustrated, and do everything they can to win. Of course they have pride! Top 10 in the freaking world! Although they shouldn't play dirty, they don't do it consciously. Their not thinking, "Now i'm gonna trip and make Rodriguez fall on his ass." They just see it from a different point of view. Open up people, put yourself in THEIR shoes, stop making dirty comments about them... please!

Full matches are wonderful. I was able to watch it while on the treadmill and not realize how tired I was. Anybody else notice how Gaultier plants one foot on the T and never let it go despite the interference it caused? It was like Rodrigues had to be 3X better in order to constantly run around Gaultier blocking him. Then there were all the strategic breaks Gaultier would call to catch his breath. Finally if the judges favored Rodriguez instead Gaultier would have been lucky to win a single game. I'm surprised Gaultier could play so well without any practice for a month or so. According to the commentators. Most people would have been so winded they'd have just collapsed on such a hard match.

Ben Mathes is correct at 42:55, Yes Let. Once Rod brought his racquet forward the slightest bit, which he did, the further play became a second attempt. Therefore, Yes Let is the correct call.

The bit where Rodriguez jumps over Gaultier's cross court. Is Gaultier not in his right to play whatever shot he can? Rodriguez is supposed to give Gaultier a full selection of shots to the wall. Gaultier is not aware that Rodriguez is aggressively moving / anticipating a drive down the right hand side since he's focusing on the ball behind him.

@stevehughes15106 жыл бұрын
Sometimes the refs let go with some absolute shockers.......I'm astounded. One time the ball goes straight through Gaultier's legs with Rodriguez right there ready to hit it(and Gaultier)......a very basic stroke situation and yet 'yes let' comes the decision which is upheld on appeal by the video ref.......just sooo bad. However a little later on Gaultier is not moving off the ball and he's rightly cautioned by referee Riley, then a stroke given against him for the same offense in the very next rally.....good refereeing.

Love seeing Gaultier finally get punished for blocking (at 10-11 in the second). He does that an awful lot. You guys often call it "shutting out", but as soon as the striker has hit the ball it's not "shutting out" anymore, it's blocking, and it's a stroke against you. Doesn't matter how loose your opponent's prior shot was.
@inqurious9 жыл бұрын
you have a right to take space *on your shot*, but once you've hit your shot and you're not the incoming striker, "taking space" is blocking. Moving into your opponent's line to their shot, accidental or not, is a stroke.

I never understand many of the referee decisions. Maybe the most knowledgeable squash fans well understand them. But I can see now why squash is finding it difficult to get into the Olympics. Not commercial and not attractive/understandable to the most casual viewer.
