Paul Coll is so tired after this match :). But I kind of admire his attitude. I think he goes on the court every match confident he will win, and even when he is obviously losing, he still wants to win. He seems to have such a high standard for himself. That's the attitude needed to get to the top 5. Matthew, on the other hand, gave a masterclass. Just a pleasure to watch.

This comment aged well. Coll comfortably a top 5 guy or thereabouts now.

Electrifying, precision, and raw power: I could watch these two combatants play all the time!

Coll is very ambitious man, and he won't stop to keep coming back and clash with the best. The Wolf showed him however that there is still much to be learned. My thumbs up for both of them. The game is pure pleasure to watch. Thanks guys:)

Great game Paul - especially when the Wolf is proving that he is at his best in this tournament. Valuable learning experience to store away for future reference. Well done mate

That's the best match I've seen Matthew play for some time. Coll is no mug either, he's had some good runs recently.

Matthew keeps proving that clever game is still in fashion... On the other hand love to see Paul playing physical game, good match, top level. About the ball in first game, if Paul was hit by his own shot, that means it was a poor shot, so he deserves to lose point on such a shot.

Paul Coll had a totally different grip back then and played with a lot more power. I think he should reintroduce some hard hitting and kill shots into his modern game. Look at Mo Elshorbagy, hard clean hitting is taking him back up the rankings. My 2 cents worth anyway. The wolf, always a pleasure to watch, wasn't that often Nick hit that hard either, but he did in this game. Well done gents, great match. 👍

Is the way Coll plays typical of Kiwis and Ausssies. It seems like there is something familiar about the way he gets around the court and some of his shot selections.... but other people would know better than me.

Don't think that was a stroke at the end of the first game. If Matthew had played it back there, it would have been a boast.

Fookit Yeah I know what you're saying, and generally I think it's fine to wait and play the ball whenever you want. but I don't think he could have straightened the ball at that position. would love it if you had any videos of Matthew straightening with the ball that far behind him.

chironares yeah he was looking for the stroke, not respectable play in my opinion

Paul Coll is my favourite player and I feel like he is a world champion in the making. Unfortunately for him, Nick Matthew is just too clever and too good at this point in time.

1:54 the ball bounces before matthew's feet - if Coll wasnt there, why would matthew he leave it until its gone past his body (with unreturnable back wall rebound) to hit an awkward backhand/boast. he was purely looking for the player. a half volley boast probably wouldve won the point... That play was cheap as shit.

The Wolf has to be the most consistent player in the modern era. Just showed Coll who the boss is; I was getting tired of his over the top Superman shirt.

Matthew - last point 1st set - bad attitude no sportsmanship. Play the ball not the man. Isn't it the idea?

Disagreed, to beat a player like Coll who is constantly retrieving and hovering around players to scramble back into position, you need to take advantage of his poor positioning and this is one good way to do it.

Yeah I didn't like that, so slimey to go for these cheap points, especially from the top players.

It's not like Nick his taking a massive back swing to try and find Paul for the cheap stroke; Paul literally had to dodge his own shot. When it's this clear cut, it's not cheap to take the stroke and eliminate any risk, even if a winning drop is on. If Nick had tinned it and let Paul back into the game, I would have thought a player of his experience would have known better.

Nope! Coll positioned himself badly and was causing interference. Sure Matthew probably could hit somehow but it could be bad hit resulting with lost point. And what if it was Colls poor sportmanship trying to force error on Nick?
