It's been 55 decisions. Those who think Gohar is overreacting don't know the context
@murraylonsdale30696 ай бұрын
if player's swing impeded then 'let' .. if player's swing prevented then 'stroke' .. pretty clear in this case .. player's swing was totally prevented SO STROKE is the correct decision (as is often the case when a player totally miscues a shot) .. this wasn't even borderline .. clear STROKE all day long .. as for conduct of Gohar well that's a separate issue and should not enter the debate on 'stroke' v 'let'
@Skoobedobedo5 ай бұрын
It looks like her swing was impeded rather than prevented to me and she didn't even attempt to hit the ball but I'm still learning these difficult calls. It looks like if she had of tried to play the ball she had eneogh room to play a backhand shot at that ball. Is it a stroke because she needs to have enough room to be able to prepare her racket fully behind her before playing the backhand shot?
@murraylonsdale30695 ай бұрын
interesting .. i've looked again .. striker totally miscues her volley and essentially plays ball back to herself and cannot 'clear' .. added to this is the fact that the players just happened to be 'almost' on top of each other as the exchange took place .. its quite possible that had striker elected NOT to play the volley, she herself could have legitimately requested 'let' or 'stroke' .. but she DID play the volley, and the mishit was her 'undoing' .. but interesting that we all see things slightly differently ..

Stroke but the ref gave a let in order to balance the constant blocking from Gohar. Gohar is so talented-I wish she would simply rely upon her skills.

The match was at home and the stands were packed with passionate fans of both players. Ref was right in the middle of the crowd and both players were revved up. The video ref call was a good call. Everyone was tense and there were so many calls beforehand. Better to watch the replay and figure it out.

She had the opportunity to go forward and play the ball, she chose to move away from the ball and crash into the opponent. Watch in the last clip, the overhead from the front, pause the video when the players clash, the ball is just coming into screen.

@@equinoxproject2284Yes, she did take a little too much space to make sure it's a stroke, but it was a stroke anyway. If she moved onto the ball and away from opponent to clear the interference, she would be too close to the ball to make a comfortable and good hit. Hammamy's volley was just mishit back on herself.

The call should have been a stroke but she should also have received a conduct stroke for her behavior. You do not get a pass simply because it is match ball and the ref should have penalized her for kicking/hitting the glass like that which would have been considered a "major offense" under Rule 15 of the rule book.
@richardlosonczi94826 ай бұрын
This is how every single person who does competitive sports reacts to such an obvious mistake on the ref's part... even the opponent knew it... if she should get a conduct stroke for this, the ref should be looked at by a committee because his/her mistake is a lot worse than the player's emotional reaction in such a stressful game. On the player's part it's an understandable emotional outburst, on the ref's part it's pure incompetence.

@Skoobedobedo5 ай бұрын
She could have played that ball but as soon as she felt impeded she didn't even attempt to play it and threw her racket away so maybe "yes let" is the correct call after all? As for her behaviour after the call kicking the door, I think they need a new rule for that and have her instantly lose the game for that behaviour.

Isn’t it that one can ask for a different referee? Wouldn’t it be good sportsmanship for rival to give the point ? When that happens a good sportman usually hits the ball out of the court on purpose giving the point well deserved and that way gets around referee’s bad judgement .. shocking !!

I love how you are promoting this as 'high drama' but this season you can't even talk to the refs without getting a conduct. This emotion is what spectators want to see not the vanilla squash players your trying to create.

Later on the refs gave her a point that would be a stroke to Hamammy e gave her the victory! I believe they tried to compensate this call giving the match to her. She goes super fast in the ball but clear very little. All the time! She won that match like Asal wins his matches. But she is skinny the refs tend to consider the oponent should have put more effort. They must pressure the players to increase the effort to clear! During all match. Hamammy would have won this match for exemple.

This is indicative of what stops squash becoming a mainstream sport. This is a stroke - it can’t be any more straightforward. Every single game there are decisions made which leave me shaking my head and every televised game you get the commentators disagreeing with each other and the ref coming up with something different entirely. Bit mental, really.

@fredericpetit15556 ай бұрын
Should be a stroke without video referee. But at this moment, it's comprehensible that's needed. Gohar didn't have to smash the door. Conduct stroke. 11-11. And with the call just after, stroke. 11-12. Pretty the same on the board, but maybe an easier ending match for the referee.

She had the possibility to hit the ball, but instead she turned immediately and started yelling. This is not a stroke, because her hit was not prevented, but only impeded. So, a let is OK. As regards her reaction, well, if I were in her shoes and this was the 55th controversy in the match, a "taekwondo kick"would have enered the rule book of squash...

Called a let to replay the point which happens when someone obstructs your path or it's be dangerous to play the shot, this should've been a stroke where the ball went back on herself and she literally impeded her opponents swing and should have won the point
